Most of the splitter set-ups I've seen, that's true. CutForFun's splitter mods have addressed all of the negatives, I think anyway. He did a great job. Check it out on his thread…

I wouldn't want to have to hold levers with both hands to operate it. It is a creative way to keep the cylinder/up right lower.

I'm gonna say most H/V splitters I have come across have a relatively high bed height compared to their horizontal only cousins.

If you have work tables on either side of the bed then there is a LOT less chasing splits in horz mode. And they don't get in the way of vertical operation either.

Even tho I think I have my machine figured out pretty well, I still say horz with a hydraulic lift is the easiest way to fly.

I'm only 5ft 10in so perhaps a good height to me is low to you big guys?

It would seem that with the splitter up on the trailer in vertical mode and the operator on the ground that the valve would be really high?

If it works out so be it, I was just asking because I don't really understand.

All good questions Nate… I wondered about the lever too and was ready with an old control stick from an ultralight, that bends down about 6". But, I didn't need it. The height was good for me. I'm 5'-11".

Most of the guys i work with are taller than me. If someone is in the bucket with me i have to make them fly or tell them i am only responsible for my head around the feeder. That is one sweet rig you have going on there.

Good. I think. Worked all night so once I get a little motivation I will see how it works out. Its a shame some of the wood I have to leave lay. Occasionally I do make a good score though but none last night.

Funny you should say that… yesterday, on my drive down 95 to Portland, the boys have been knocking down a lot of big stuff on the sides. I thought, damm it's a shame they grind and/or chip up a lot of that. My head was right on a swivel…. s'lotta wood…

Worst part is during trouble work the budnippers don't even chip it. Occasionally I get some good wood but I don't like asking people especially in the middle of the night.

Think that guy with the two stitches would let me borrow his helmet and goggles.  You would be amazed how fast some people come out of their houses when the lights are off and a saw fires up.
