I always looked forward to your posts about the bike being delivered and ready to go for the summer. I missed mine when I sold it in the 2000's. It gets better with time.
I saw Heritage was closed and wondered why. Seemed like a decent dealership every time I stopped in. I'm 72 and still riding. But I do realize I'm not getting younger. I had cataract surgery this past fall, so my eyesight is good. My knees have both been replaced. I'm in decent health overall and hope to stay that way. But, without a doubt, it is a more dangerous world on the roads these days. I live on the NH border in central Mass, so I always go north or west, rarely south, never east as that is where to traffic is much more dangerous. After the last two C19 years, I'm looking forward to a decent riding season.
? Couch Rocket? After blowing the pic up the only other thing I see is some illegible chicken scratching on the mailbox post?
Is that a 1600? If so those are fast. Probably my flavor of BMW in 20 years. All this talk of commuting on bikes, and I used to do it all the time, even with 35 mile one way commutes. Then I started working downtown Milwaukee. Nope. Too many pot smoking while driving, on cell phone tiktoking while driving, or simply no regard for their own life drivers that you on 2 wheels is the last thing on their minds. Well, now I have a 4 Mile commute, highest speed limit is 45 mph, and those couple of stretches any of the ways I can go to work are very short. Once the new road meets up with the backside of the business park our new HQ is at is done, I won't even need to get on any rush with a speed limit higher than 35 mph. So, I'm planning on commuting to work on my bike again. The laptop fits in my backpack, so I don't need a bike with hard side bags yet.
couch rocket is what made me laugh me n the boy spent a week in Robbinsville on bikes there are many many good roads down there get off the beaten path to avoid the chit show dragon
I commuted on this for two years. Honda S65. But my commute was rural and 4 miles one way. A guy in Knoxville TN wanted it worse than I did so out the door it went. 2900 miles on it when I sold it. 100% bone stock
You hear of guys buying barn finds? The S65 was a bedroom find. Long story. Madison had a sporting goods store out by where East Towne Mall was built? Berg Pearson Sporting Goods. They sold these little Honda’s out of the back room. I remember my brother buying a CB175 there. This S65 popped up on Craigslist a couple towns away New Glarus. When I saw the Berg Pearson sticker on the chain guard I had to have it. Bought it not running. The guy who sold it to me got it from someone who owed him money. I paid $500 for it. The bike sat in a bedroom in Madison for 39 years with a blanket over it. Sad to say the kid who bought it in the 60’s committed suicide so his mother made the poor kids bedroom a shrine to her lost son. So it sat for 39 years with no gas in the tank. The Mom died so somehow the guy who sold it me acquired it. I filed the points with a matchbook cover, poured some fresh gas in and it started on the 3rd kick. Amazing.
After reading some of the recent posts I was reflecting back on when I was stationed in northern Virginia back in the mid-90's and used to commute around the DC beltway all the time on my '93 Heritage. Never even really thought about the hazards back then but wouldn't want to drive my truck there now, never mind a motorcycle.
Sir, I just want to say that is a great quote in your sig line every time I see it I think of my brothers who served in harms way and I thank you for your service, Sir
Wouldn't doubt it, back in 2008-2010, I had about a 70 mile RT commute (one of my shorter commutes) and the Suzuki Boulevard C50 (800cc) was getting 55-60 mpg. Commute was mostly 40-50 mph, and only 5 stop signs on the way to work - even less on the way back home, so pretty much hit the sweet spot.
Thank you. Experiences in war definitely changes one's perspectives on life and what we take for granted. I went and dug out my old riding vest. Had this made in '94 by one of the vendors at Myrtle Beach bike week.
Good time to sell. HD dealers are begging for bikes to buy and resell. They are worth more than book values these days.
Ahhh, the good Ole days of using your bike to jump over 5 friends (or enemies ) while an adult watches in the background.
