Nice!! I've got mine torn apart too for a starter rebuild. Started making nasty noises at me just as the season came to a close. Looks like you've got lots going on! :)

Ain't the off-season grand for those major servicings? Just getting my Wing back together after an extended go.

What year is the Wing? They are the most complicated motorcycles when you take the plastic off! Luckily the Valky has been maintenance free for the last few years. She'll need tires this coming year.. maybe half way through the season.

So, is there a reason you own that many? Or do you have a small army you ride with and all go out at once? Looks like tons of fun though! o_O

The Wing is a 88, first year GL1500 that led a charmed life mostly in a heated garage. The bike had 57,600 kms (37,500 mi.) when I bought it. I am the third owner. I guess it can be classed as a true survivor as it it completely stock and hasn't been hacked up, bent or dropped. I am just completing a all plastic off, front to back service changing the timimg belts, all fluids and a general torque and clean of all systems. You are right in that it is really amazing what is on that bike. Back in 88 it sure was way ahead of its time. It still runs like a timex watch now.

Wow! So that is a 6 cylinder?! That is the same engine as in my Valkyrie, incredible that they were putting those out back then.. then again, they were building the CBX six cylinders even in mid 70s. I changed my timing belts back around 80K, and they still looked brand new, but at that age, you are smart to replace them. I ride with a friend who has that almost identical bike but I think his is about a 95 or something. He rides it like it's a friggin spot bike.. as big as it is, he rides it two up with himself and his wife and he doesn't have any trouble keeping up with anyone.

Some guys with the Valkyries, same basic engine, have 300K on them and they are still crankin' out the miles. My 98 with 99K on it, as never burned a drop of oil. I have run Mobil 1 15/50 synthetic in it since new. These days I get riding newbies that walk around it scratching their heads wondering who makes that monster, and how much did it cost. They are amazed when I tell them Honda stopped building them in 2003.

Oh well, I've got mine! :D

Yup, your Valk is a beauty for sure. Both the Valk and the Wing were way ahead of their time in quality and engineering, thats why there are so many still surviving. That 6 cylinder, given proper maintanence is no doubt a 200-300,000 mile motor. Just wish the Wing had a Valk transmission hooked to it. Ride Safe.

When its done it will have stretched bags, custom rear fender extension, airbrushed ghost flames, painted inner fairing and a 2014 SG front wheel. Hope I remember how to put it all back together...

I heard a bike ride by my house on Saturday. That's pushing the season a bit. We've got 5 inches of fresh snow today and the schools are closed.

    Oh that is too cool!

We had an old steel mill worker here who had a Harley with a side car frame that he drove year round. The side car didn't have any seat, it was just a frame with weights. He ordered studded motorcycle snow tires from Germany. Haven't seen him around in a couple years now but he was a sight to behold when he went roaring by in a snow storm.
