If you are taking the wheel off, you might as well mail order your tire...that should save you some dough. The best deals are often if you order a set. I don't recall anymore exactly what we charged to change tires/balance on a customer drop off wheel...seems like it was $20-30...but that was 20 years ago too.
I’ve traveled coastal highway. If you want to ride sporty, Cherohala and that area is unbeatable. I rode as fast as I wanted to, for hours, on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I really love the Michelin Road5’s and have run them for many many miles. A customer gave me a Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 rear when I worked at the bike shop because he got the wrong size and couldn’t return it. So I’ve been on those for a while. They are an awesome tire. I’ve pushed, very aggressively, and they give excellent feedback and feel. Since I can’t afford to keep buying new ones every 4k, I’m going back to the Michelins. I’ve run Metz on the VTR. I left them because I wasn’t wearing out the tread before it got hard and gave up traction and feel. Just my experience, not saying that’s yours. I have a new set of Michelin Power 5’s for the Super when I get the new wheels on.
Shame we aren’t closer. I’d mount/balance for ya. Check fbmp if you can. Sometimes local fellas like me post up the service for 25-30 if ya just bring the wheel.
I'd personally have to know someone/be familiar with their work before I would let them change my tire. You know as well as I do how easy it would be for someone to screw up a high dollar wheel and/or tire bead...some dude working outta his garage for cash, they probably won't do a thing for you if damage happens. If you did choose to go that route, I'd take some good pics of the wheel proving that it was in good shape. I guess pics don't help proving that your brake disc wasn't bent though... But $10 is a screaming deal for a mount n balance! (no doubt you're getting stick-on wheel weights though)
Hammer on’s are no bueno for me, on any wheel. But the bikes get beads. And I agree about condition worry’s. I actually considered throwing an ad up to do them for $25, then I saw that guy for $10. And he’s had that up for at least a year now. I just really don’t want to mess with tubes.
Yeah I guess I forgot about that...we did have a few people that didn't want the clip weights...but more that didn't like the stick on ones...looks I guess? I remember getting my azz chewed by a BMW customer for using aftermarket sticky weights on his wheel...
That’s odd imo. The clip/hammer-on scratch every time pretty much. The only thing that sucks w/ sticky is cleaning the old off. Soak the residual in WD and let sit for a minute or two and the old scrapes right off.
And tubes aren't that bad (usually...dirt bikes can suck though) just gotta get used to dealing with them. Could charge extra for it...or just state in your ad "tubeless tires only" I've never had to mess with those foam inserts...they look "fun"...those came out after I was outta the game.
I did lots of tubes at the shop. Just didn’t enjoy it much. IF I did pinch one, ain’t no way I’d be stocking spares. I always sprayed em down with this stuff: Made the rubber very slippery and less likely to snag anywhere.
Huh...that's a new one on me...we always used the tried n true baby powder. That always made the wife give a second sniff, when you walked in the door from work smelling of baby powder She was used to the oil/gas/gear lube smell...but baby powder...alright, what's going on here buddy?!
I got boned with a backyard supplier like this. Scraped the hell outta the Nighttrain rear wheel. If someone tore up one of these CVO wheels i might go Michael Douglas in Falling Down
