Have an '86 350X myself...did a frame up rebuild on it a few years back...put '85 colored plastic back on it. Poor thing is buried in the back of the garage right now...hasn't ran for...well, too long.
I bought the 84 200x AND 86 350x new. The 85 350x and 86 250R were bought used back in the day. The 86 350x is a creme puff as I didn't use it as a trail bike. Just went to Silver Lake sand dunes in Michigan. The 200x was bought when I graduated high school with my own money I saved from doing work. Rebuilt the motor once and needs it again. I put thousands of hours on that bike and it was as tough as nails. I got the 85 350x to replace it as a trail bike. Always liked the 3 wheelers but a buddy bought an 88 250r 4 wheeler and man was that a great piece.
Got a few shots like that at Silver Lake myself...on paper, not electronic...should see about getting them switched over...
Very Nice Kevin!!! I always liked an ATC as a matter of fact, I had two of them in the past when they first came out. I had a Honda Big Red and a Yamaha Tri-moto. I loved them both, never had an ounce of trouble with either one. Neither one had a "suspension" per say the Big Red would bounce more than anything... But I enjoyed them very much.
As much as I want to like your post, "I can't" ... You gotta get that thing out and at least get some fire through the motor! Get'r out and at least get her running in some snow! That's an Awesome machine!!!
The only 3 wheeler I rode a lot with no suspension was one of these. It bounced a lot too but had a 555 Cummins with an Allison automatic.
2002 Yamaha Grizzly 600 will be offered at a auction in a few weeks. It comes with a winch and snow plow. If I remember correctly it has around 1,200 +/- miles. Plastic is in good shape and comes with two sets of rims/tires. Looking for your thoughts on what a reasonable price might be and opinions on this particular ATV good or bad. Thanks
600 or 660? 2002 should be a 660 water cooled engine with IRS. (also, the 02 660 engine is more desirable than following years due to some de-tuning from what I have been told)
I can't comment on value of them currently. I had an '02 that I bought new for $7k. Sold it in 2011 for $4400 if that helps. Machine was in good condition with low hours for the year and no issues. Look for louvered side panels below the gas tank. There was a problem with vapor locking due to trapped heat in the 02s. Yamaha supplied a kit (if you inquired) to add vents to side plastics and an additional shield for the header. I really liked the bike overall. I treated it more like a sport bike than a 4x4 though. I only managed to break a couple things and replaced one hub bearing on the rear while I had it. Caught the two wheeler bug and sold it off to help finance a street motorcycle after watching it sit idle in the barn for about 3 years.
My Buddy has two Grizzlies and never a problem with them, one is a 2006 and I think the other is a 2009. I like the Honda's, it fits my big @$$ "but" I'm also a Yamaha fan!
Ahhhhhhh, yeah.... I can see that! Here's a dumb question, why is the directional tire in the front installed in the wrong direction???
I ain't gonna lie, I used beat on my Grizzly like it owed me money. Not abusive, but ridden very hard under adverse conditions. It was a very dependable machine. I got 7 or 8 years out of the original battery even. I would buy another if I were in need. Photo after last wash before putting on craigslist to send her down the road. New owner was very happy.
The one pictured is not the one I drove but the same make/model.(Big A 2600) We also had a an older Big A 2000. We never had our tires on backwards but if I had to guess I'd say they are rotating them and didn't want to break it down. Not sure of that but that is my guess. They are NO fun to change and I did quite a few. Back in about 1990, A 66" Goodyear Tire was $2800.00 Hate to think what they are now. We got about 3- 4 years out of a set.
Wow! Great lineup Kevin and brings back great memories. I bought a 200X in high school too. My cousin had the 350X (still in the back of his mom's garage) and our neighbors had the 250R. My brother was the odd ball with the Yamaha Tri-Z.
I bought mine mint for around $18002k? Been a while...3-4 years ago? with a little over 1k miles. Kidos and greedy or disconnected people like to advertise them for retail and claim "well that's what they go for" but if you can come in under 3k for a clean low mileage grizzly you aren't doing bad. I beat the hell out of mine. Use it almost every day to run the dogs, and sport riding. Axles occasionally go from having saplings (10 + foot trees)wrap around them tear the boot then go for a submerged stream ride... bumper is smashed headlights are gone because of it And at 4k miles I rebuilt the rear "differential" just because of old seals and water intrusion. All I did was bearing and races with new seals... It's submerged weekly! Then it if time allows it gets it's weekly log pull in. If it's not pulling my wood trailer with a bit more than a face cord(last week I moved over 3 cord of beech), it's pulling sap through snow and mud. I just pulled this 2700lbs of maple through some whoops and a few muddy spots pulled it about a mile. I was trying to figure out how much weight/wood it's moved for me 3years multiplied by a conservative 10cord a year weighing a conservative 3000lbs..... If it spontaneously combusted tomorrow, it wouldn't owe me a thing.
XXL here on the board gave me a 3 thousand lb winch and it works great out in the bush. Thanks again man.
