6” Moc Toe. The only thing the tread is not good for the snow. It is a very shallow tread which I like because it doesn’t track dirt in the house. Just need a diff boot for snow.

My #1 are Hoffman’s followed by Halls.
Partial to the heavy lug sole with the heel and 8-10” height. Having been a lineman in a rural area, climbing, rough terrain, mud and manure was always tough on boots. For these boots you are talking a few :makeitrain"
There’s a bunch of other brands that have similar stuff that’s lighter and less expensive, but the quality and foot support just isn’t there.

    J. Dirt what model Hoffman or Halls are you running? How are they as far as insulation and being waterproof? I'm looking for a logger style boot to replace my muck boots I have been using in the woods for cutting.

I bought these Vasque Cascade hiking boots over 40 years ago, if i remember paid around $65 US for them did not spend the time needed to get them broken in then just put them in closet and forgot about them.

Last year i found them and again started getting them broken in, just a few changes in sox and a lot of walking and they started feeling good.

Today they don't make this really tough quality all leather boot, i am just glad i kept them and re-found them.

    These are the Halls…https://www.hallssafety.com/store/Halls-c61252002
Pretty warm with a cotton or thin wool sock. Waterproofing isn’t bad especially in just snow. Worked plenty of 20 plus hour shifts in them.

These are the Hoffman’s……10" Composite Toe Dri-Line 2
Little less grip and tougher to break in. Waterproofing is top notch!!!
As far as choice the Hoffman’s edge out the halls by a little bit. Either boot is no comparison to muck boots. The muck boots I have make my feet soggy and cold in a hurry! As long as you aren’t swamp logging these leather boots are great. I used to put them on the dryer every night and use the Hoffman’s wax on them every so often to keep them in good shape.

I tried on the Thorogood Moc then the Wolverine Dur shocks, the Wolverines have a inter Dur Shock insert there a lot more comfortable then the Thorogood Moc also the Wolverine is water proof and $80 US less then the Thorogood Moc.
Also i like the laccing system better on the Wolverine Dur shocks, been wearing them and they are very comfortable already with no breaking in.

Even though I wear top notch boots at work and have for years(power plants)….. I threw on sneakers one night in a rush to unload some wood….18 inch round slid from maybe a foot up luckily not breaking my toe….but I lost the nail. Two years later zero pain but the new nail is kinda messed up. Carolina steel toe electric hazard non stop now!!!! B77D8DD4-BF42-4A71-A8FE-9D6B7F7BAD95.jpeg

Just bought a pair of American made Red Wings last week. They don’t fit well so I’m looking at the White’s, Nick’s or Thorogoods in a steel toe moc. But they have to have a removable insole. I have custom orthotics for my plantar fasciitis if I don’t wear the inserts it’s comes back and my right foot heel starts screaming!

Also talk to Tim @ JK Boots I had excellent results with fitting when I ordered from them. He will definitely work with you & the orthotics to get the fit right.
