Because of the mild winter we had and all the rain I wasn't able to go cut any. Flowage right through the middle of the property. Went up a couple weeks ago to see what was what. Neighboring property owner saw me drive in and stopped me. He's cutting his property and asked me if he could use our road to get to the back side and save him lots of miles trucking. Told him not a problem just don't get into the field. We talked a while and I said that I've got to take a couple days and get my wood but time is scarce until September and I hate working in the heat. His response? "My harvester has a/c"

Came home yesterday to this and he called me later to say that they are moving another 3 loads a day by using our roads and he dropped us a little thank you 90 miles away.

Google silver ridge Maine. Look at the satellite view. Not many people live there and everyone (almost) are good people. The land we have my wife's great grandparents started with and it keeps getting passed down. Letting him use the road is just him being courteous enough to ask permission. That's life there. Worked a couple hours this morning on the pile. Now in Saco for daughters softball practice. 82 isn't fun cutting wood.

That's a long way from Saco...long way from most anywhere. I was wondering what you were talking about...about all the rain, been wicked dry on the coast.

Trucking is a lot less expensive than skidding. The labor cost is the same per hour, skidders are expensive machines and trucks on good roads move much faster.

We live a little north of the middle so it's just a normal day. I'm originally from caribou and the wife's from Sherman, somehow we ended up by Bangor and spend tons of time around Portland with the girl. 30,000 miles plus each year. You just get used to it.

He had to come this way for some big parts for one of his machines and figured he would load it on his triaxle to make it easier. Dropped the wood here and picked up his stuff on the way home. Says the extra cost was minimal and the wood was all stuff he really didn't have a market for but needed to remove. You ought to see this harvester he has. $225,000 Cadillac. He has a big Cat grapple skidder that pulls about a whole truck load at a time, he said I'm welcome to play with it sometime. My 540 Deere isn't exactly small but can't compete with that.
