That would be nice, but the contractor works for the Amish guy and is definitely NOT Amish. Took him a LONG time to come up with some numbers. Everybody else was fairly quick with their quote. Amish guy called a bit ago, and the material number is way low for everything, and the labor is excessively high (unless comparing to Lowes).
Local guy called today and will be here Friday for a final walk around and estimate before he starts ordering stuff. One nice surprise is that his schedule hasn't changed since our last conversation, so he can still start sometime next month. All soffits and fascia need to be worked on, so even if the windows aren't here, he could maybe start with that. Brother made it over today and we put together a list of materials and a rough game plan. He put a furnace on hold and ordered the plenum. We'll probably pick all that up next week. Need to clean some stuff outta the attic. Looks like things might start coming together soon.
Ya, but it's ok. Ain't nuttin' gonna' change it (except time), so I gotta' roll with it. Grew up listenin' to Motown. Lived there a good chunk of my life.
Gonna' do a bit of work on the slidey wall tomorrow. Outlet to the left needs to go farther left (it's in the future opening), and the one on the right will be moved over to the right to the other side of the stud it's on. New boxes and wiring through the header (thanks ironpony). Might do some work on the new back door as well. Trying real hard to not go up in the attic, even though I know it's gotta' get done. My knees WILL NOT thank me for getting up there.
Hell yeah man I am proud to have grown up in the area we did, I don't know what these youngins lives will be
Got the wiring done this morning, then decided it would be a good idea to make the outlets double gangers, then decided it might be a gooder idea to put a motion light outside the slider while I have the wall apart (had the same idea in the laundry room......pretty quick of me, eh?). I'll do a switch too, so I don't have to kill the breaker to work on it in the future. Didn't do all I wanted today, but the local guy came over about 6:30 to talk about doing the porch for us too, and a couple other things. It'll adjust his estimate, but I knew that. He re-measured the walls, and plans to talk to the supplier about how many square we need. I think no more than 15-16 (which is also probably a bit heavy), but the supplier took contractors original measurements and came up with 22. Hmmm
I'll do a switch too, so I don't have to kill the breaker to work on it ... uh huh... bazzzzzzzaaaaaaaap...
Hmm. Sounds to me like someone needs some stuff for their own home project and had that added in to the cut list maybe?
I did the math and came up with about 1400 sq ft, without considering the 14 windows, three entry doors, and the new slider. Stove room alone has 100 square feet of windows. So, being quite generous, 1600 should do us well. It'll get sorted out before we sign up.
As soon as I read this...made me think of this post from the other day...chuckled both times I did...
