So, this is interesting. The house is staying at 75 for quite a while with just coals in the stove and it's now 1 OAT. Just added a small Oak split to burn some of those down and I'm pretty sure the IAT will stay at 75 for a while. I guess this is more like how a house should feel in the winter, eh? More work to be done, but I'm pretty stoked right about now.
Nicely Done papadave .... Had a few pages to catch up on... But it sounds like you've done Gooder... .... on the remodeling....
Thanks Chvymn99 . The credit goes to the guys doing the work in sub-zero temps. I found another cold air stream (a small one) in the bedroom and sealed it up yesterday. Also taped up the new rear door to jamb gap temporarily, as there was a fair amount of cold air coming through that. Helped quite a bit last night. Got down to -7 last night and no furnace use at all. 68 IAT when I got up. Seems as though the ice damming has just about completely stopped........again, I'm cautiously optimistic. Headed to HD today for the drywall needed to get these walls put back together.
We have that a lot around here in the post war neighborhoods. Shingles or aluminum siding up to the eaves. Pine boards run vertical up to the peak on the gable ends. Lower end was a rounded scallop for detail. The gable ends usually get stripped off before vinyl. The work looks great and it sounds like it is helping with keeping the cold out.
Thanks Jon. I knew this would happen, but I'm now rethinking/relearning the wood burning process/schedule. It'll be a "work in progress" for a while until I get it honed. Some of the Ash will get split a little smaller for daytime fires. Couldn't stand not having outside lighting while this was going on, so I finally got out and put the lights up outside the patio and front doors. Need an extension ladder (yep, brother has mine ) to put up the north side light for the woodshed. They're still working on the deck door area, so that one (which rarely gets used) will have to wait. Probably put up the light for the new rear door tomorrow. First one my wife found at either Goodwill or Habitat for $3. Front porch, I bought and installed 10 years ago. You can see the box for the gable light top r/h of 2nd pic.
Just realized I nevah got 'roun to takin' a pic of the gas line remaneuvering................. I present to you........a gas line.
Wow, looks like a new house. You will think the same thing every time you drive in your yard. Looks so good, and will look that good for many years to come. the only thing you will need to do is cleaning the siding occasionally. Make sure you cut the grass with the blower aimed away from the house. Flying rocks will break the siding. you never know what the dog will leave on the grass for you to hit with the mower.
Au contraire, Larry.......I know EXACTLY what the dogs leave for me. In this weather, they'd be WMD, but I don't plan to mow for a few months so I'm safe. Yep, looks like a different house now. Just got home from shopping and slowed down pulling in the drive. We'll need to change how we explain to people what the house looks like when giving directions.
Crew is back at 8 AM. 28 OAT, MUCH better working conditions. They should have quite a bit more done today, and probably at least one more day to finish. Calling for 44 OAT on Thursday. Here comes our January thaw.........
Oh yeah, that got fixed pretty quick. They're doing a great job, and from the looks of it at the moment, they might be done with most of the siding today. Cruisin'.
