So we raise Dexter's for grass fed beef - Here's a couple of our herd that were off by themselves this morning, as well as a shot of the barn that's on the property. The majority of our herd overwinter about 10 min away from the house. Also well as Zeke the cattle dog
I hear man. I only have 2.5 acres in the country right now. Beautiful place and I'm blessed to have it. But I do want some more land to expand farming activities. Even with my little 2.5 I hobby farm pumpkins and sweet corn! Sell it at the road in a stand. It's a great hobby IMO! Nothing better than rural life.
Just found this thread. Lot of great looking animals here. I was raised on a farm, we had chickens, cows, hogs, goats, even about 50 ducks one time. We had chickens until last year. Those pictures bring back some good memories. I have a picture or 2 I can share. These cows were about 40 miles from our house. Part of our flock in the big pen. We raised them from biddies Young Barred Rock rooster
Nice pics - the chicks look clean and health! I've been thinking of doing a FB pic of an animal a day with a little bio - I figure people can use more of that in their life right now, and what's on there is such a wasteland.
Funny to come across my post, above, because I forgot I posted it. I’ve done what I was thinking of, every day since then, with a little blurb on biology/farming/geology/etc. Here’s a picture I put on FB today...
Lambing season could start any day now. This gal has been the first to go, each of the last two years. If her udder is any sign, she'll be first again this year.
I added two more Longhorns to my pasture this year, a red steer and a red/white heifer, both are not yet one year old. The older two cows have been around my place for a long time. Junior... Classy and Cee Cee This is "Texas" which I have had for 23 years, very old for a cow.
