Extremely! The bull only stays in when he feels like it. That’s why my cows don’t have horns! Wood always heats you twice, unless you rehandle like I do then it’s four or five times!
Genetics (number crunching type, as opposed to white lab coat). I milked cows when I first got out of school, but decided to go back once I realized I wasn’t cut out for 4am milking and 9pm herd check. My hat’s off to friends who thrive on that.
Alright though I was around about down around that area often I could not recall Gill, but I do in Galeton, worked with the school and a church there. Guessing it's grown now too like the rest, but it was a small Hometown USA Poster, everyone was so kind. Gorgeous! I have never seen Sandhill Crane in person, just pictures and steaks, they were absolutely impressive even from a distance. Almost a bit comical, 4 giant birds standing around as if talking casually with each other. There are some large white birds on a pond down the road from there, I must stop and get a picture to id them (my distance sight is not that great anymore), leaning pelican/herring from those flying overhead. With the very late summer then monsoons back to back with late spring pastures were flooded this year, the ranchers are using different pastures than I've seen since we moved here. One pasture closer to me that has not been used has a small group of pregnant and cows with newborns now. I did not know they gave birth this late, but this late summer has to be one for the records. Maybe not a record, I remember a few years the North Park hay we fed the llamas was either ruined or not cut til Aug/Sept. For future reference, if I see a cow giving birth laying on her side should I be making calls? Or is that normal? It was in May, and frankly the ranchers wife is very old, very crabby, and pretty much unapproachable so I did not stop, but I could and will in the future if I need to.
? Cows give birth laying down so that's a good thing. Main things to consider are her feet should be downhill & how long has she been there? If you can see the calfs feet they should be palm down. I appreciate a heads up but some, especially the older generations might take that as a slight.
It was a few years ago. Dad's pets mostly. All registered whiteface herefords. He sold a few calves and some beef when he realized he had too many
Time for some goats in this thread... This is Dana Hafthor.....he is one of our bucks Millie... Sugar... Daisy.... Arya... Molly... Sansa.......she is a twin sister of Arya. This is a pic of when they were born. I dont have an updated pic of her. I'm also missing a pic of our other buck Houdini. They are all bred and due in the next month or 2 so our herd will be increasing dramatically soon.
