A Spruce on the lawn has been slowly dying over several years, and it was time to bring it down. We've been hiring my wife's co-worker to do some work while my back recuperates this summer, and he did the honors of dropping the tree. We gave him a pumpkin target for fun, and he hit it dead-on (this is his day job - always impressive to see someone skilled in action). After he limbed it (or de-limbed it?), I was able to drive from the top of the tree right down through and scoop up loads of limbs using the tractor forks. The tree got carried into the barnyard in sections, and then cut into 3' sections for the town to use in their boiler. Still a little cleanup to do, but 97% done. He processed and stacked this woodpile over the summer, too. I haven't added it up yet, so not sure how many cord, but roughly one winter's worth. Cut at 18" - 19", some of this will be burned in the new Absolute Steel next winter; we have the new stove in the house, but won't get it installed this winter. (I talked the Mrs into the picture for a sense of scale.)
