When I am splitting the chickens won't leave me alone they are all under foot. Not a bug can hit the ground without being pounced on.

They also keep the stacks and the yard bug free including ticks and grubs.

I am thinking about getting some chicks this year and building a coop, plenty of folks around here have them, and their hens are in my yard half the time anyway.

My stacks are about 60-70 feet from any structure. The distance keeps all the critters away from the house.

When I bring wood up to the porch in the winter I find a lot of snake skins in the stacks every year. I know those snakes are chowing on ants/bugs. Works for me!

Oh yeah! When we had chickens they'd mill around where I was splitting scratching in the sawdust and as soon as I split one that had ants I'd step away and they were all over them.

A couple of summers ago there was a family of Robin's that took care of the ants when I was splitting, I miss watching them.
