Here is a picture of the steam engines that we do here in class. This one has been around for years sitting on a bench in the shop and is getting a little beat up. Everyone that comes into the shop seems to play with it so it has probably millions or revolutions in it's life. We run them either off compressed air or a air duster like you use for cleaning computer key boards and alike. Can't let them play with a pressure vessel and hot steam for safety reasons although we have run them on steam. Thanks for the interest.
My uncle is a big steam engine guy and I remember him making a very similar engine when I was a kid...his was smaller and used a rifle shell for the cylinder, ran it on compressed air...I need to see if he still has that around...I get a pic if I can.
A rifle case for the cylinder , Thats different. If you have a picture that would be cool to see. Thanks.
Interesting walking b Thanks for the pics !! Interesting walking beam with perpendicular clevises design, is it rotary ported ? I like how people play with things on a desk........used to keep a charged capacitor on mine.......
Yes it is ported through the crankshaft with a port on the top of the crank that gets timed with the piston and exhaust exits through the front of the crankshaft. Charged capacitor ; brings back memories of being in high school electronics class. We used to hook to the power supplies to them at our work stations and turn up the power until they exploded and if that wasn't enough we would plug in a resistor and turn up the juice until they burned up. This even got me a three day vacation in 9th grade. LOL Fun times and thanks for bringing back the memories.
I use that saw on National forest land all the time. It has all the legal spark arrestors still in it.
Just added this to my fleet of Vintage Pro Saws. I had the P-61 for a few months between the Stihl 45 & 56.
