Okay...I have a small place, 75 sq feet with 6-7 inches of spay foam in the walls, a slab floor with R-10 XPS under it and attic is about R-40 blown in cellulose. And 9 ft ceilings. With my Fisher Baby Bear I burned Just just under 2 full cord of hard wood. I probably could have gotten away with 1.5 full cord if I didn't load it up quite as often. Very pleased that I am 'getting away' with this amount! I absolutely love that 10 cord will last me 5 years! One of the benefits of a small place....one down size is that there is not a lot of storage...at least I am warm!
Yep, not much space for storage in there. Now, if that was a typo and you really have 7500 sq ft.........I have no sympathy.
75sq feet is pretty da g small. With all that insulation I'd think you could almost heat it with a candle.
Yep 750 is the number. I have a good size 1 car attached garage. Down sized from 3600 sq ft. Still getting rid of stuff, giving away, selling on CL and tossing out stuff. I didn't want a mortgage and haven't had a need for one. I have a little bit of finish flooring to lay down and my trim work to do for windows and base board. Can always add on...but no reason too yet. Just minimizing expenses so I can retire comfortably in 11 years.
Not a shipping container... Just a small place that I could build with cash and not pay a ton of taxes on. The divorce was rough in some ways...may be small but it's home for me and I am proud of what I built. and my monthly electric averages $28
Heh, like others shack I saw 75 sq ft, and went.. Told wife, that's a 7.5x10 ft room. No wonder he goes by "shack".
Theres a cottage next door to me that's about 650sf. I could honestly see no problem living there by myself. All I would need is a bedroom, kitchen, and living room big enough to be comfortable, and have my small office in a corner of it. I wouldn't need anything more than that as long as I dont need to escape from anyone.
I have a 200 amp service...everything is basic and I don't leave a lot of things plugged in, so very little vampire draw. LEDs in everything except shop lights. I turn things off or unplug when not using. I have electric water heater, submersible well pump, and electric heat that I don't use at all anymore. I don't have a ton of electronics, no dryer, no TV...just the internet... The biggest factor is that I am just one person here and if I am not using it then I unplug it or kill the power strip. As I have said before...I don't want/have a mortgage and I don't like bills, especially big ones. I live pretty simple in a nice place that I built. They have checked my meter twice on me...and swapped it once. Just efficient living.
The monthly service fee is not bad here. It does include a minimum amount of power with it...can't remember how much though...have to wait til next bill comes...I know my electric for the barn is much higher than for my residence!
I live very comfortably in 800 sf. I do have the shop attached which is nice, but I love the small efficient place. Don't need any more than that & don't wanna pay for it.
Welcome to the 750SqFt club I raised 2 kids in mine. Guess I never even knew we were missing out on anything? Now that its just the 2 of us it almost feels BIG I just giggle when I see people constructing giant new homes for 2! WTH are people thinking? I like my efficient place. Sounds smart to me. We have downsized to 850 sq ft. I'm building a nice sun room on, but the wife and I don't want a large house. My shop and garage cover much more sq ft. Kinda funny, lots of my customers comment on my small place. They don't understand why a builder would own something so humble. We love it
