I’m in a similar situation, but my plumbing run would not be far at all. I need the HPWH for cooling and dehumidifying in the summer, so it would have to be a combo of HPWH, propane WH as a storage vessel and backup heat with recirc loop using the furnace as primary heat in the heating season, all set to keep them interacting as desired. Probably easiest to keep the HPWH as primary and leave furnace out of the loop?

Depends on how much hot water you use...unless you have a house full of teenagers taking long showers, and making way too much laundry (several clothes changes per day! :hair:) I doubt it would pay off...plus as JRHAWK9 found, that water coil steals a little heat from going to the house...which could be an issue if the house is already on the upper end of the VF's capacity to begin with (maybe not so much in sunny WNC? :))

You need to charge your phone, and that is very impressive performance from the VF200! Also, have you considered moving somewhere it doesn't get to -50?

I talked with Daryl for a bit, super nice folks! I was joking about moving, all the folks I know up your way are so nice and helpful. Very reasonable and honest. Seems like a great place to live.

We are talking about going up to Ely in June sometime. Plan on stopping by Lamppa if we do. It's only, what, 20 minutes away from Tower?

Yes about 20 mins . Assuming your coming to ely on 169 you’ll get to tower before ely .

My Dad is originally from Ely. I've still got relatives in town. Spent many summers up there swimming in Shagawau Lake and fishing by the treatment plant. We used to call it Stinky Ditch. Don't know if the locals still do. Grandma lived on Klondike road and we used to jump our bikes at the bottom of Finn Hill. Good days, long gone. Ely sure has changed from when I was a kid. Not quite the sleepy little burg it was back then, especially in the summer.

Haven't been up there in a number of years, probably about due...

Getting a long way from the intent of the thread but I can confirm there is a small ice house community currently set up at stinky ditch

If you are looking for a furnace that requires minimal attention the Vapor-Fire 100 is the way to go. Going on year 5 with mine, great furnace. You will love the extended burn times and the even heat supply.

That furnace would work here in Delta Jct. I haven't seen -50 F ambient yet this winter . But we have had -60 wind chill.
This winter has been really quite mild for us.

brenndatomu ? Where do you reside in OH specifically? I grew up in the Eastlake and Mentor area. Came to GA chasing work during construction of the Georgia Dome. I have some friends in OH still. Ever been to Geauga Park? That dates me for sure.
