A few hours worth of work this morning yielded 15 more logs for the stacks!

You have quite the pile of logs there! All for firewood or sawing some up? I ordered the 35m on Tuesday, so hopefully i will get it out in the woods next weekend. We will have to compare notes.

They make a huge difference. I can’t get around on the hills here if their snow covered without them.

I am thinking about getting a small mill. As for now that’s all firewood. Ash and shagbark for the most part. I like it, it has ton of power. Only thing I don’t like is my tractor needs some weight on the front. Skidding logs up hills gets interesting. Front tires off the ground, steering with the foot brakes. The 35m has a lot of cable.[IMG]
There is a log hooked to winch if you zoom in. One thing that disappointed me was the saw holder. If I have the guard up on winch saw hits it. If I turn saw the other way saw will hit my ROPS if I raise winch all the way up. Also a can’t hook is a must!!

It was way too windy to work in the woods safely today, so I cut some brush along the trail. I was surprised at how much snow survived the rain and warm temps this past week.

The ice at the stream crossing is much better. Last weekend it was a jarring drop down into the stream and a scramble back up out. During a cold spell in early January I was crossing on the ice with the tractor and not breaking through. That’s only happened a few times in the past 15 years.

    Extra cable can be handy, but hopefully that much won’t be routinely necessary. {edit: my luck usually means the more cable I’ve got out, the more likely I get caught on something, which means ever more walking back and forth!}

As you test it’s limits, be aware the winch is likely more stout than your top-link bracket on the tractor. Looks like a great setup!

I’ve thought about that top link. There’s a lot of leverage there. Thanks for the info.

Slocum Try filling up your FEL with dirt/stone for ballast in the front?

I’ve thought about. My trails are none to wide, it’s easy to get around with the bucket off and no forks. Thinking about getting a quick attach plate and making a small box for weight? Maybe enough room in it for a saw? Straps? I dont know just a thought

Yeah thats a ton of cable! I will have to remember to ballast the front end, keep the bucket or grapple on or something. I dont have chains on my rears so when skidding i usually loose traction first before the front end comes up but i will keep an eye on it.
Thats kinda silly about that saw holder. I wonder if its adjustable or something?
Im glad you think it has a ton of power, i was worried i should step up to the 45m, but sounds like thats not needed. Ash and shag are great firewood! Thats awesome!

The saw holder is welded in place. I’m thinking about taking the wire guard off of winch. Not sure if it’s purpose to be honest. You can’t operate winch controls from the seat, you stand off to the side so it’s not protecting you when your winching? It may have to go

Picked up a kubota chariot today. The great internet said go 20ft but I cheaped out with 18ft. Looks to be plenty of room for the backhoe to sit. Dont plan to haul anything but local.

Plenty of room! Glad to see your using Jack stands! I've seen truck rear ends lift up with tractors..... not good, especially on a hill! :D

Running the L3901 with LA525 loader and BH77 backhoe (not shown). Tires are loaded with beet juice. Total weight if tractor fully dressed is approx. 5200lb.

Trailer is an 18ft Quality Trailer Manuf. out of Salem, Ohio. I opted for the 3500lb axles, brakes on both axles, and wood deck. Would have loved to go 20ft with 5000lb axles but my truck is a limiting factor....

Was gung ho about purchasing a 3/4 ton before buying a trailer and sizing to that but the $$$ didnt make sense. Considering I will tow the tractor 3-4 times a year locally, I will be just fine. I will tow to WV Hatfield McCoy a few times a year loaded with quads and dirtbikes. For this my truck will do excellent as the load will only be 2k max (not including trailer).

My truck has Timbren load assist bump stops - which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone with a pickup truck. Helps keep the truck level with a load but doesn't affect ride quality at all as a leaf helper would. My truck would be squatted heavily without them.

Haven't towed the tractor yet but I'll find and excuse to tow it somewhere soon.
