Well, she has to play a supporting role to a Yanmar mini-ex today, but she has been invaluable and put in some good work. Once I switch to putting down fresh gravel it will be all tractor work.

I considered it, but opted not to for a variety of reasons. The base is good already and the driveway will get torn up at some point when the garage gets replaced. There is also a massive boulder that needs to be hammered out, and 50amp electrical (not in conduit) to the barn is only 4-6" underground. I hit a tail off the grounding rod for the building electricians kindly buried 1-2" down. With the other excavator jobs I had and limited rental time I threw up my arms and just moved onto the next job.

 

Bet someone got help after they changed their trousers.

On the left it is just the front guard. I had been mowing on Golden Rod and the screen was plastered (the radiator was surprisingly not too bad), and I had collected a wild apple somehow.

 

Ahh the dreaded screen is full of! It’s usually cat tail or dandelions in spring my temp gauge is rising. need a blow off tool to clean my filter &screebd

 

Got our first snow today, it didn't stay for long but it was a reminder of what is to come. I got out and put the new winch and little Kubota to use on a medium size ash tree. It had some woodpecker holes but I didn't closely examine them for EAB holes, or peel back the bark to look for the "S" channels. Overall the setup worked beautifully and is a vast improvement on using chains or bucking and carrying to the road. I still need to work on cleaning up my splitting area from last year so I can stack these on sacraficial logs to keep them out of the mud.

I couldn't wait for the ground to freeze so I got some more work done. My little girl came and helped clean up the tops for her woods/fairy forts. Fortunately her going rate is still hot cocoa and a granola bar. The little B2601 is handling the logs and Igland 2501 just fine. I was debating between the 2501 and 3501, but the 2501 is plenty and doesn't weigh too much. All my work has been on flat ground near my processing area, we will see how later winter work goes as I pull logs from further from my processing area (lots more hill work and driving down hills).

 

Skidding winches are great tools! I bought one a few months ago and it is a real work saver. It also keeps from tearing up the woods as much, since I don't have to get the skidsteer into the tree and then worm the logs individually through the standing timber.
