I have only run gear transmissions on tractors, so no firsthand experience. This spring I bought an 8’ flail mower from a guy with a 50+ hp Kubota with hydrostatic trans, and he said it ran the flail more like a 40 hp tractor. He liked the convenience for a lot of his jobs, but was surprised at how many hp were consumed to move. A flail that size has the tractor on the edge of its comfort to begin with, so any loss would be more obvious than in most applications.

In field work like mowing a hydro does eat up a fair amount more of available engine output to the PTO than a gear drive. As far as pulling a load goes you will loose traction before you lug it down so the efficiency is less apparent.

If you do get chains for the rear you will need to put wheel spacers on as there is not enough room between the tire and fender. I found this out I think I had to put on 1.25 or 1.5" spacers.

Just got myself, I mean my wife got me this one, for Christmas. Only about 60' from our router, works well for me. If you want me to test the distance (don't think it's spec'd) I could add a cord to it and see how far it would work. Same application, block heater. Got sick of getting all snow geared up, walking through 2' of snow to plug in the tractor, then getting all snow geared down, wait for 2 hours, and repeat the snow gear. Now use the dumb phone, and just wait with my coffee. Looks like the price went up, I think I got it for around $20. The day I found the tractor gelled, it started up flawless, so the heater and wifi switch did their jobs!

Weird, the link isn't working, search for this guy :

my experience on box blades is you can tell quality by the weight of the unit. I got a woods used slightly for 500 dollars. I think it weighs about 800 lbs, twice the piece of equipment compared to a 500 lb one I borrowed.

You need a 5' box blade, the heavier the better. Go as heavy as your budget permits. Also check out a land plane, AKA grading scraper.

I think i read at least 100lb per cutting tooth should be standard. Ill be checking Craigslist.

Ive looked into land pride, everything attachments, and county line so far. The county line is priced right, but only weighing in at 400lb. Ill keep researching.

Could weights be added to a box scraper? I have had a King Kutter brand 4' behind my 30 horse quite a bit and have not damaged it. I find a scraper blade to be more useful for my purposes. The rippers have come in handy a few times though.

Don't all have both? Mine does, teeth can be lowered below scraper blade or raised depending on need.

Everything I've seen does. I have a heavy crown on the driveway. it'll be nice to push in reverse, then move forward and cut bringing back all the stove that's been buried under the sand from the roads during mant winters. I guarantee i won't need to order any stone.

I don't think the driveway has been done in years and years

does your rear 3 point hitch adjustable meaning you can lower one side more than other. Mine is I thought it was standard, so you can keep crown with box blade?

Sounds like the one you have is working fine for you.
As for weights, I think this is meant more as an indication of the quality of the raw materials used to build it than the actual function, i.e. heavier gauge steel for the box, heavier duty rippers, stronger 3-pt linkage, etc.
Well Seasoned I suppose it all depends on the soil you want to grade. If it's soft, sand, stuff, you may get by with an "economy" brand just fine like RCBS, but if you have hard, rocky soil, or you plan on doing huge acreage, then maybe you are better off with a high-end like Woods. ???

Hmm... I have a Kodiak branded 7' box blade just 'cuz that's what the dealer carried. It's listed at 526#. It actually works o.k. on our rocky soil, but it is a little rinky-dinky if I had to use it more than 3-4 times / year. The Woods brand 7' is listed at 1200#. WOW, that's a lot of steel. Actually, that would probably be too heavy for my 39 hp.

Yes, the Bxx50's should have a full cat 1 hitch with very nice (but still manual) adjustments, similar to the "grand L" series like mine. You are correct, you need to angle the blade to maintain the crown.
skip to 11:52 for review of the 3-pt

I meant to checkout woods! Now i will. Yes, that would be to heavy for me. I want something decent, and have plenty of time to research. We have alot of sand, but below where i will also use it, not completely sure.

Yes it will. I believe even enough to be able to ditch with it as well.

I thought about a hydro top link, but held off. Figured plenty of folks here can guide me installing one. The tooless quick adjustments are nice coming stock with the machine.

Check out Everything Attachments, that's where I got mine, seems well built, weighing around 450# for a 48" model on my baby 'bota
