My Deere has the exact block heater in a difficult to reach spot. So after having the pigtail unplug twice necessitating a muffler removal each time to plug it back in i glued it in with GM grey silicone.
Does your tractor set in a unheated building? Was wondering if you had a particular reason for the coolant heater.
Yes for the most part. If temps below 20 was in the forecast I would put the tractor in my garage. Not a big deal but pita. That don’t happen a lot but I like having the option to plug it in. The tractor has always started with the glow plugs when I’ve needed it but it’s hard on things when it’s that cold. 15/40 is as thick as molasses when it’s that cold. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and I’m a fan of block heaters.
I’ll have to check in AM whatever dealer sells me. They sold tractor without a block heater on it! I had them install it and change all fluids. Every once in a while my dealer runs a $250 special winter tune up wash n wax where they pick it up chance oil and hydro and filters check x y z. I do this once every 3 years as it’s almost cheaper than doing myself.
Yeah nothing wrong with that. Block heaters are fairly cheap too. Mine has about half its starts cold i would guess (not in garage). I run rotella T6 5w40. Thats awesome that you are a heavy equipment mechanic. Bet you have tons of knowledge on repairing stuff that most people wouldnt even imagine.
