PS, did you find a fridge that has metal racks instead of plastic?

Interesting thread, getting ready to put a whole new kitchen in here in 2 months, just starting to work with the contractor on design. I can see it's gonna be expensive, but the good news for me is I get a new wood burner out of the deal since the family room where the stove is connects right to the kitchen and my wife wants to replace it while everything is torn up. So we are going stove shopping Saturday.

I can't say Id really ever need a fridge as big as the pic you posted, but sweet deal for 1200.

savemoney Lowes will occasionally do a 10-15% off appliance deal if you sign up for their card, and it's 0% for 12 months if paid in full. Even if budgeted for its an easy way to keep some cash free for hiccups that occur during any remodel

I got my appliances at Sears...it was a tiered sale so it was 10% off 1, 15% off 2, etc. I bought 4 and made out pretty well.

My biggest dislike with the kitchen so far has been lack of availability of items that I've needed to buy. From large appliances to ceramic tile, it's been pretty much a scavenger hunt when it comes to finding something that doesn't need to be 'special ordered'.
One recent example was the microwave. Our old panasonic worked great for 7 years and heated/defrosted very well. So I searched for one online that was like the one we had and found out that they are one of the biggest makers of microwaves and the reviews told me that a lot of other people liked them as well.
The problem that ensued was finding a store that carried panasonic, and when I did find a store that sold them, finding a store that had them in stock. After checking numerous stores, I finally found what I was looking for at target. It was a pita finding it, but now I have the SS version of my old one and it rocks, just like the old one did.
The last special order item that I'm waiting for is backsplash tile. It's hard to find 4 inch square tiles anymore and when we finally did find some, they would take a week to get. So we went to Lowes to give their tile another look. When we did find a tile that we settled for, guess what, it wasn't in stock, nor was it in stock in any other local stores. So we went back and ordered the tile that we had originally planned on using. It's supposed to be in next Saturday.
It seems that all of the 'popular' items are always in stock, but we don't do popular and we suffer for it.

The thing I really like about the kitchen so far is the farm sink. I can put a 5 gallon bucket in it and swing the faucet over it without having to tilt the bucket...yessss.

Started my kitchen redo 2 weeks ago.
Removed all the cabinets and current countertop. Installed all the upper cabinets, lower cabinets, and layed the countertop back on although it's temporary. Needed the sink for everyday use so everything was hooked back up. I did have to modify the plumbing slighty and was able to do it from the basement.

Shopped around for countertops and found a local company that works with lowes for a cheaper price. Also they were having a 10% sale on countertops and 5% for using their card. They also offered a FREE undermount sink.

Went with a nice Quartz counter and a 5" backsplash. Pics on install when they come 2-3 weeks. Went with a light color since we chose dark doors.

We're planning a remodel shortly, in order to sell this place. It's been on the market since October, and not a single offer. The only negative feedback we have is the kitchen. I think it's priced right, considering it does need a new one. As a buyer, I would see that as an opportunity to make a kitchen like I want, but apparently I'm in the minority. People want a move in ready house.

My pseudo-father-in-law installed kitchens for HD back in the day. He did really well, had five crews working for him. Then he lost it all trying to keep his business afloat when things got bad. He lit right up when we brought the subject up. He grabbed a measuring tape, sat down and drew up some plans, said we can do this and this and that, for $4-6k. His son does solid surface countertops, and I'll get that at cost. He is quite excited about it.

I'll probably add new appliances to that, so if I stick $6-8k into it, the price is going up $20k.

Use dilluted white vinegar to clean the SS surfaces. gets finger prints and junk off very easily and doesn't hurt the surface.

Vinegar is the main surface cleaner in our house.
