I had an old unused wedge laying around in a tool box so I had a friend weld it up upside down and I attached it to an old block of oak. Between that and my Fireside friend I should be set for making kindling. IMG_0129.JPG

Yes, and safer. When I first bought the Fireside Friend it was very sharp. At some point I was making thin strips of kindling out of scraps of 2"x4". One of them must have started falling over just as I was swinging the Estwing and I must have went to grab it with my left hand. It happened so fast I'm still not sure how I did it, but I needed 8 stitches on my left index finger:

Yeeeooooww! I'm afraid to like this post, but I did as a reminder to all of us to be careful. Things can happen even as we are focused on a task.

Hope you are feeling better in general, Brian.

My 7 y/o daughter graduated from dead blow hammer & me holding the hatchet to just the hatchet alone. Similar to the vids but swung by a kid and my hand holds the smaller pieces.

She is good. I find the straight grained pine shorties, like <10" stuff. Chunk it up for her and let her go with plenty of supervision. The kid is a natural.

She isn't capable of swinging a small sledge yet, so it takes her several wacks sometimes but she swings with confidence. Yes, I have all my fingers.

Summers heat 2400 made by englander i think, got it at lowes. They say its a smart stove because it has an automatic air control, works great and i highly recomend it at only $900. It gets the whole house over 70 and the living room up over 80 which is too hot so i have to really tone it down. I think its snhc30 model number

Hi Kimberly, Someone said you might have a A question about the auto air control. I have summers heat 2400 and i love it. I have had mine for a few months now, it replaced an old VC Defiant, huge difference.
