My experience with the Red Armor is its clean burning. Protection is excellent. Its a tad finicky to tune and I hate the smell. Others have noted the tuning issues, others less "in tune" with their equipment don't notice it. The smell is subjective. It's a sickening sweet smell to me not unlike melted crayons.

I buy in large bottles for any oil and use a graduated cylinder to accurately measure it so I don't have an answer for you. They sell it in little 50:1 bottles then the larger.

The Red Armor I use is just oil and I have not blowed up anything real go0d yet. Seems good. Fingers crossed, knock on wood now.

You have nothing to worry about with that oil.

I store my chains in labeled boxes in an old blue print cabinet. Carry maybe 15 chains in the saw box in the truck and the rest are in the cabinet. I should count them someday, but there's more than a few lol.

I can list more if you wish. Those were some of the top performing oils in my testing and the first 4 are sorta in a league of their own honestly.

If your near the Stihl dealership all the time buy a six pack of the orange 2.5 gallon mix bottles and mix with 2 gallons instead. Comes out about 42:1 using a 2.5 gallon bottle in 2 gallons

Years back i had an OPE dealer tell me to do that. Makes it richer, but why not the silver bottle which i buy by the six pack as well. Wont my saw warranties be voided...not that it matters much?

Absolutely not, the orange bottle is warranty certified just as much as the silver. Silver came about for the 4-mix engine primarily. The silver oil gets you the double warranty but running orange doesn’t void it.
And saws last real well on the orange Stihl oil but Steve isn’t a fan of the smell.

This is what I have been doing for years. I buy the oil for 2 and a half gallons of gas and mix it with 2 gallons. I have had no troubles with the Stihl silver oil.

I forget to list it above. Yes, the smell is one of the worst to me.

I knew newer model Stihl saws from at least the early 2000’s were 50:1, maybe even early to late 90’s. When did they change exactly?

Pretty sure the 09, the many MS models and the 066, MS 660 were all 50:1 ... at least I think they were. Been awhile since having any of those in my hands.

Just bought a new pole saw and it’s 50:1.

My old S10 and 041 manuals called for 40:1 if I’m not mistaken.

They are 50:1 but lots of people run a bit rich for increased life

Not sure what you’re saying by “they”. I realize people generally mix richer for increased engine life.

I meant the newer saws I’ve run (saws from 90’s to present...perhaps they changed before the 90’s) were 50:1.

My old S10 and 041 manuals said 40:1 and we mixed them that way back then.

I was asking when they went to 50:1?
