Permethrin here too. Avon bug repellent is really good also as is off deep woods. The Sawyer stuff is really good though as it will kill them if they get on you. Put some in a cup and drop a tick in they get hard as a rock almost instantly.

Is the stuff the dogs get the same spray or is it a pill? I got to invest in something for mine and was thinking about some flea/tick pill the vet has. Didn't know if there was anything better

Another vote here for permethrin. We don't get ticks too bad here, but after my wife and older daughter started helping with the wood I wanted something to treat their clothes with, knowing that if either ever came up with one I'd never get a hand again. :)

The deer have been so prolific here they're tripping over themselves lately as well, and so far this stuff had done the trick. Seems to help with mosquitos, too. Permethrin on the clothes, deep woods off on the skin.. good to go for at least a couple hours. ;)

DEET, Permethrin, long sleeves and pants tucked in, and careful inspection every night. Also, treat all of your pets with Frontline, Advantix, etc. They a can serve as a very lethal reservoir for any ticks that make it into your home.

We used to use AdvantixII topical, but tried Seresto collars last year. They were very effective.
Giving dogs a pill for tick bites isn't really effective at keeping ticks from biting. Once the dog is "bitten", the tick will probably die, but the damage is done.
I believe the spray I have can be used on dogs, but the Seresto collars last 8 months. They're about $45.
Wouldn't bother me at all if someone came up with a way to nuke the little bastages from the face of the planet.

Just a thought on a strong tick defense for Fido. We get that Advantix stuff (stinky between shoulder blade, dot by their tail stuff), and treat their doggy beds with the same spray used for clothing. Any ticks that make it off the dog, end up dying from exposure to the bedding.

Not sure about that, but this stuff only takes 3 oz. to treat an acre.:D:faint::whistle::bug:

Imidan is very effective too, but the rate is higher, 2#/acre
