Maybe we should have Deacon start a thread on proper cleaning and maintenance of saws. Maybe a video?
Favorite will always be my first saw. The 028 Super. Prior to that I cut everything with a bow saw (hand). Takes a LONG time to cut a cord by hand! Paid $279 for the 028. Took me 2 years to pay it off. I decided then & there that I had to make it last. Was my only saw for 20 years. I knew if I destroyed it I was back to the bow saw! Plastic is original, though my tech spiffed it up a bit. Frankly I am amazed that something that spins at 12K rpm in dusty, muddy, snowy & grimy conditions would last at all. Being meticulous with the air filter as well as gas & oil no doubt help. Never loaned it out... What do you guys do when someone asks to borrow your saw?
What do you guys do when someone asks to borrow your saw? Send them the Farm Boss. I have even gone over and blocked wood. Hardest for me to say no but than look at the money we spend on saws, chains, dogs, bars etc. No one has ever taken care of my stuff better than me.
I tell them what my daddy told me: There are 2 things you never lend out - your wife and your chainsaw. I then offer to cut their stuff up for them.
Lending out a saw? It's a hard one - I hate to say no to folks - I think it's good to 'waste' a bit of money on a cheapo used saw and keep as a loaner - fewer worries if something goes wrong (which it always seems to.....). I've loaned my good saws and they've come back pretty trashed - no effort to clean at all and chain obviously in the dirt, etc. My Dad always told me to return another man's equipment that you borrow in better condition than it was in when you borrowed it - I've always kept this rule, but it seems rare....Cheers!

Personally, I hate asking to borrow stuff. I always found myself fixing things just to be able to use em. I don't loan out saws, if they need a saw, I go with it and help them. Not going to chance a stupid mistake like straight gassing a saw then end up getting in a fight about it. There are a few things I loan out, but I'm selective as to who borrows them. I've lost some good tools to ham fisted idiots. In the long run, it's much easier to say no.
Since I have too many tools, I am allways getting the broken stuff and they ask for a loaner. I allways lend out the Crapsman/pull-on ............ with one exception; When my Mother - in - law asked to "borrow a chainsaw" on a Friday, I gave her the biggest one with the sharpest chain . Poor girl couldn't even lift it . I think she got the message. I spent the next 2 days dropping trees for her
