Normally this time of year in my neck of the woods we are over run with Japanese beetles, Asian beetles, box elder bugs, spider mites and an assortment of other creepy crawlies that seem to plague us. This year for whatever reason, I am not seeing any of the aforementioned. Has it finally come to the point in my life that even insects don't want to be around me or is anyone else noticed this where you live?
Very few ticks this year. Plenty of skeeters early this year, and they're still around, but not as bad. Biting flies don't seem quite so bad, but they're still hanging around. Lots of grasshoppers in the field.
We've seen a fair amount of jap beetles & skeeters, ticks early, but same here...... overall not bad.
Other things in scarce supply this year here, are the usual bumper crop of toads and small frogs and also we usually have a good supply of garter snakes, but not this year. Saw my first garter snake today while cutting grass near one of the wood stacks.
Seem like everything like that runs in cycles, last year we had no nuts on the Hickory trees this year there are a ton of them. Plenty of Japanese Beatles around here this year. Not nearly as many grubs as we had last year.
Yeah we've got the normal amount of bugs here in southern ohio. I was thinking we were low on ticks as I've only seen one so far this year, and that's with 2 dogs that run around outside all day. But others have told me they've seen more than usual this year so IDK. We do have an abnormal amount of toads....every time I mow I see tons of them hopping for for security of the base of a tree!! I guess it's all the rain we've had this year.
Seems to be fewer bugs here this year too. No sign of the Jap beetles this year. They just about got Grammy's raised bed vegs last year and completely took out all of the peaches on the only P tree we have. Every peach was covered.
Usually polluted with Jap and cuke beetles . I've seen very few. I've NEVER seen so many house, deer, and fruit flies,, EVER !!!. SHEESH Slugs out the wahzoo as usual. Raised hell with some of my zucchini . The cuke beetles usually wipe out my cukes and zucchini. Glad to not see them.
Butcher. Every once and a while the amount of flying insects around my place seems to go down here as well. Like not long ago. Funny and oddly enough, but not too long after enjoying a fresh home made batch of my Chili, they seem to decline for a period of time.
Japanese beetles are usually a annual visit in my front yard for about 3-5 days. But I'm thinking that's it's due anytime. Cause it's usually early August if I remember.
