My first stove was a Quadrafire Classic Bay 1200 (47,500 BTU), and I ran it for about a half of a decade. Great stove and 90% of the time, I kept it on low. Quads are very efficient, and it seems that the E2 is the most efficient model they have made to date. I believe that the E2 uses some of the same technology that the Harman do (varying the blower out to match and maintain temp). If that's the case? Then they hit a home run with that stove. Looks great, heats great, and built to last.

Welcome Gary, I struggled with what to do about my zero clearance fireplace to the point I think I was making others sick hearing about it, but there are inserts designed to fit into fake fire place boxes such as imacman is showing in response #9.
Basically, the installers told me they would destroy the zero clearance fire box and maintain the façade of the fireplace. They can go out the back wall of your fireplace or up and out the existing chimney with both the OAK and exhaust. Lots of options of where to put the OAK. I am not a roof climber so out the side would have been best for me. In the end, I just installed a free standing unit in another area and am exceptionally pleased with the results. What was important is that I got a lot of solid advise here. After 4 years of going back and forth, I make the change. Slow learner, but better late than never. Get someone over that is experienced to look at your situation. Good luck and welcome to the group. keep the pics coming!

don't blow yer exhaust under the roof of the porch.......probs either gonna have to go thru the porch roof or extend out past the porch (which will look funny, as well as likely being over the 4' max horizontal run usually allowed)

Definitely going straight up the existing chase in the old chimney. Think I will pull the trigger on this today or tomorrow! I see TSC has Pro-Pellets for 189.00 on an early order, should I just get 3 ton or try some different brands to see what I like better? I kinda wanted to have 2-3 on hand in the garage and then maybe experiment with some different brands.

Pro pellets for $189? Go for it. Those were some of the best pellets I've burned, and even if they're not great in your stove, $189 is still a pretty solid deal, even if they're only shoulder pellets. Get the 3 tons if you have the spare cash and room to store them.

For $189, I would jump on as much as I could afford. Pro Pellets are a very good pellet.

Ive no experience with Pro Pellets, so cant comment, although given what we pay in the East, I say those are darn good prices! I am more a try a plethora of different choices kinda guy tho......nothing ventured, nothing gained!

You mentioned using the old chase....what kind of pipe are you using for the exhaust work? If it's a wood chase, should be regular liner....not rated for clearance to combustibles......

I think you will be thoroughly impressed.

One of the best things you can do, and to get the best results from an insert, is to install good block off plates. Both at the stove level and at the top of the chase.

The next best thing is to install an OAK. Almost every pellet stoves exhaust blower is blowing 80 CFM of air out the house. 80 Cubic Feet a Minute! So instead of throwing the air you already paid to heat, out the flue. Use an OAK and it will allow the heat to get deeper into your home, and stop and cold drafts from air being replaced in your home.

Selkirk makes a vent set up called DT (Direct Temp). It has the intake and the exhaust all in one package. The OAK air is preheated by the exhaust pipe and helps dry any moisture in the air. Depending on what kind of flue is installed will depend on whether you can run up the existing chase, or if that vent will need to come down.

Good luck and keep us updated with pics and such :)

Whether it was the M55 or the Mt V is good by me. 52i would also be a good choice, But hard to beat an auto clean or self cleaner for looooonnnnnggg runs in the cold season. ;)

All good stoves, of course now that I'm a "convert" to Harman, I would point you in that direction. They are pricey, but they seldom disappoint the owners. One of the arguments about stove selection is the ability to get dependable advice and service. My old stove company wanted nothing to do with customers and always referred back to a dealer. Sometimes these dealers were furniture salespeople!

I think you'll love that stove. So far we've had one on the showroom floor for a little over a month and I honestly like the simplicity of it over the AE.

Also have installed 2 for customers in the high country that are already burning and they are happy as could be.

Keep it clean and read the entire owners manual and it will treat you well.
