FB came up with an ad for those Java Flame Pellets last night. So, since FB had already "made" me, I did a search and saw a thread from 2009 that mentioned them.
A pellet supplier up near me in upstate ny I told him about these and got ahold of the manufacturer and he had like 22-25 ton coming. I told him I wanted to try them. I burn matras religiously now and I have 4 ton bought and paid for now. When he talked to the manufacturer they said the pellets are normal size now so the small ones might have been an earlier batch. But I was wondering without changing dip switch settings for initial start up if these at that high of btu would warp the stove.
He also said there is going to be problems getting pellets soon. A lot of companies like lacrete and Canadian ones are sending their pellets over seas because they can make so much money over there. He said that they are selling them for like $13-14 a bag over there because fuel is so expensive in Europe.
Already is. Just posted in another thread about a dealer who is down to selling individual bags, waiting for product to arrive. Ive seen OTHER dealers having a fraction of normal inventory, looking more like end of season than end of November. If your not stocked up now, it's already getting dicey.
Told my buddy I would take a ton to try. $400 a ton but if the btu are that high then it would be worth it even if mixing like 50/50 with matra like ihatepropane said. I’m just curious if it will do any damage to the stove
I am burning matras now and have for a few years but this year I noticed matras are a lot smaller. I’m getting some fly ash/ popcorning because they are so small I think. I adjusted my dip switches on my p43 to +21 instead of +40 like I have had it for years to see if that solves the problem. I wonder if they will jump around like these?
I have some matras from last year and they look like typical pellets. I have not noticed the Javas jumping around yet.
Lots of bits and pieces. Seen that plenty of times before, but not with Matras yet so far. Mine are a pretty uniform 3/4 inch, they were bought in 2018 and 2020 batches. Man they burn clean. I do have to increase my feed rate a bit to get the good heat, on account of they are a little longer than the norm so they feed a bit slower in general. Had a batch of AWFWP once that was all little tiny bits like that. They made a nice fireworks show.
That’s kinda what these are doing. I actually had to turn my rate down because they are so small it pushes more into the pot. Fireworks like crazy lol. But my pellet guy said that the javas will be in in 2 weeks so I’m going to get a ton. Did you every try burning those javas alone or did you have to mix them because they were to hot?
Ok...here's my "official" one bag review of these coffee pellets. They are EXTREMELY clean and right on par, if not "cleaner", than a Fir pellet....SUPER low ash. They are also VERY hot BUT I'm not sure if it's because the pellets are very small (1/8"-1/4" and pieces) and more feeds into the burnpot per auger cycle OR it's because these are coffee pellets and have more BTU packed in them. I did need to run my stove on the lowest setting, which I never do, because of how hot the burn was on my normal setting. I did develop a small clinker in the pot, not sure what that was about as I didn't expect to see one. All in all, these are a fantastic pellet and as good, if not better (heat wise) than a Doug Fir and great alternative to a Fir pellet. Not sure exactly where the price point will be on these though. One thing that was reported by Joe was some "flaking/chipping" of the burnpot after burning these. Maybe just coincidence or maybe something with the pellets but I thought it was worth noting for other burners. Thanks to Joe Bucks Pellets for donating these to try out.
What do you mean flaking/chipping of the burn pot? The coffee actually eats through the metal? So it would be worth mixing and not burning straight coffee then it sounds.
