So far 2020 has averaged 15*F above average here in Northeast Ohio. It looks like my big silver maple is budding. That shouldn't happen till March. Hope it doesnt kill the tree when and if winter does come. Its right next to driveway. And has the electric. cable and internet lines runnin through it.
Nature has a way to deal with this. Should be just fine. True, many ornamental trees/plants planted in the wrong zones that have flourished over previous years may not get away with it. It's a risk you take.
I also remember the year some of the apple trees blossomed in October! I feared for them but they came through it just fine.
Just cut a green mulberry down this morning. Came back and got the tractor and when I went to load the rounds they were oozing white sap. Never saw that before.
Funny, yesterday I noticed the leaf buds on the sassafras trees on the way to the mailbox looked bigger than they should this time of year. Bigger and greener. The green caught my eye before the size.
Sister and I was discussing our spring flowers on Sunday. They are sprouting way too early. I have seen tulips coming up and some crocuses are already out of the ground. The fig bushes are budding out; a cold snap will then kill them and no figs; at least not the first ones and often it messes up the second crop as well. I am not liking this warm weather because I know cold weather will be coming back and damaging buds.
