Ya sure that's gum dave? Must just be a really mature tree cause i don't remember ever cutting gum with such a dark heartwood. Either way that stuff can wait till i get through all the oak cause im not smokin another chain.
Na, the more I look at it, I'm wrong. But I really think the one pic has Cherry in it! I'm almost certain. I use a lot of that for smoking, it's the stuff with the real dark center and the coarse bark. If you look past the bark it's got a red color, "CHERRY" and a big bastard at that
I'll see if i can split one of the rounds this weekend. I have seen some big cherries with a white sapwood but never that big around here.
