I'm over on the other side of the state, and I agree with all you said wholeheartedly. Only downside, ticks are still out. Disgusting little things!
Not sure if they can get them from brush because they can't bite it off like a rabbit. They do more like tear it off. You can always tell the difference between rabbit and deer damage by looking at the tips. So trying to get the tip off of brush, they might just end up pulling the brush and not be able to bite it off.
Well, 02 Dec and I have about 2-3 days of shoulder wood left - back to mild temps today - will have to make trips this weekend to start hauling the winter wood into the house from the barn - about 3 weeks later than 'normal'. Cheers!
Just filled the stove with the last splits of the shoulder wood I brought into the garage in September - unreal. Supposed to be 50 today! Will be a beautiful day to fill up the inside stacks for the next 3-4 weeks of burning. Hope this keeps up - still rarely having 3 fires/day - a morning and night fire still keep the house reasonable. Cheers!
this is my last pine day as well ,this afternoon-evening will be the start of the good stuff ( 3 year old hurricane sandy oak ) its strange to be looking forward to something so stupid
I tend to use "floor sweepings" - dead and punky stuff that I find laying around the woods - until the snow flies. I'm starting to run out of the junk, my woods is looking pretty clean, because the weather's been so good.
I just brought the last of my fall wood into the garage from the wood shed. I might be burning the better wood by the end of the week. Supposed to get to 50 on Thursday and above average highs for the next 8 days.
this is my second day of hardwood and it feels just right ,sometimes the pine got a bit to warm ,this is perfection
Still working on the uglies. Here is a pic of the bin after I brought in this mornings wheel barrow load. And a pic from a few weeks ago.
Nasty disease that a lot of people over here are unaware of. I guess there is good awareness amongst woodsmen though, I certainly always do a tick check after being out in the woods.
No where near a cord yet here as well. Starting tomorrow, we are looking at nearly a week of highs in the upper 40's and low 50' and low's in the 30's. I just started pulling out my spring uglies and chunks I set side for end of season - I'll just burn them now and pull my 1/2 cord of dry hemlock from the stacks if I need shoulder wood come April. Every day with mild temps and no snow is another day closer to March! Cheers!
House was still fairly warm last night about 8:30-9, since I had a fire earlier. Wife, laying on the couch, asks if I planned to make a fire. I said I just had a while ago. Checked the thermo, and it was 69 in the kitchen. I made a small fire, then another before bed with less wood than normal. 67 this morning, so I put in a few small splits of Poplar. She must be getting ready to hibernate or something. Still have at least a couple more days of Maple in the shed that I thought would be gone by no later than the end of November. Another 1/2 cord of that before I start burning the Oak in earnest. I'd love to get into Jan. with that Maple.
The last three splits of shoulder season wood went in the Liberty about an hour ago, this morning I put two bags of pellets in the Pellet Stove so we could turn it on just to see if it worked, yup. We shut it off after running it for about 30 minutes. We'll be burning all Cherry until it gets colder.
