The bite is here bad, 30's at most, snow spitting in the air and the Northern winds are pulling the heat right out of the house. Good time for a big softwood fire!
    Can't believe it's almost May.o_O

Heavy frost this morning, but then got up to about 55º today. Back into the 30s tonight. I'm grilling some oak in the Buck for overnight.

Still raw and cold. All we can do is sit it out. If that darn wind ever quits, it might be decent to sit outside for a while. But there again, it may not because the black flies will come out with the first decent weather.

Have had a few days in the past few weeks of no fire, but been burning 1 or 2 fires/day for the past 10 days - more to come - looks like I'll be burning into May. Cheers!

Do have hemlock in the stove for the evening, as it's in the fourties to high thirties.

I have a 1/2 cord of hemlock stacked since December - haven't burned hemlock yet - how do you compare it with pine? My hemlock seems a lot more dense than my pine. Cheers!

It burns for longer but not by much, dries about as quick though and doesn't spark as much, overall I like it. The pine I did burn does burn a bit hotter though it doesn't last as long so it's a compromise.

Hooked up the water at the cottage. I use lake water to flush the toilet and wash up. The water line runs along the ground in the woods from the lake. The temps dipped into the low 20's overnight. Yup, you guessed it, nothing but a dribble till the sun came out! Kinda brisk once that water started flowing again!
And of course, made good use of the nc-13 the night before and morning of! Maple, willow, oak.
