Yes I agree Kimberly but time is money to those guys its faster and cheaper for them to chip and go to the next job then deal with the wood when I had my tree removal business we chipped a lot also JB
You are not that far from me nice logs I pay .55 bd ft for on doyle scale if you cannot find any pm me and i might be able to hook you up JB
Yes I probably could pick up if I actually had the time between full time job and saw shop in the eves and sat and running the mill on sunday dont get the time to scrounge wood but I fix tree equipment at my shop so my customers hook me up if they do not want it JB
Thanks. IF it ever dries up or freezes I have my eye on some pushing 25 " if they don't have any center rot.
Dries up ??? around here SE PA seems like swamp loggers anymore I do not see locust that big very often that is solid most that big have center rot ? ants or they get dry rot you are better off trying to find smaller logs a lot more work for the lumber but much better quality I only have had 2 large locust that were solid I sawed them into 2 , 14x14x10' gate posts that was a few years ago the good logs are hard to get around here most also have some metal in them that is some of the reason I can get 2.50 to 3.50 a BdFt for locust lumber
I cut this one up for firewood the other week. Top was broke out and I figured it would have some rot. After the first bad piece came off it was solid down to the rootball. About 12 feet long.
That is a great score indeed. Nice easy to buck lengths. It kills me how much of the good stuff gets chipped. Working with 3.5’ diameter trunks is a PITA!
I actually prefer large diameter wood for firewood ( Less bending over for the physically battered ) I have the big saws and the splitter on the skid loader to break it down the problem is now the big live edge slab business is going nuts so all the big stuff is being sold so there is not much left for firewood I used to get all the big uglies for nothing including the trucking
