Do you suppose the misinformation about pine started with people burning wet pine. Misinformed better describes the situation then ignorant but whatever.
I dont think so, that would be you need the wood somewhat wet otherwise it burns up to quick. Just saw a post last week here stating that. Ok i see you said one of, my mistake.
Our FIL's must be related. Mine always has something stupid to offer. "You'll get tired of burning wood...that's a lot of work!" (keep in mind this guys never burned wood in his life)......and here we are 15 years later, still burning. He also likes to give financial advice despite being broke after making north of 100k for many years as a PA and openly admitting he was all for socialism and guaranteed money for everyone over 18 regardless of working or not now that he's on "disability" Same guy who got swindled by a super sleazy Egyptian "investor" I had the displeasure of meeting. My FIL's first statement was "this guys SHARP!!!". My wife and I looked at each other and said "this guys a sleazy crook!" Silly me, I prefer getting financial advice from those who have money and kept it.
That's okay Carl. I answered your question but if I now answer this one you'll no doubt try to start an argument. I have no need or want for such bull. Be at peace.
Not looking for any arguments, just wonder how the bad rap started, i know nothing about pine, not enough around here to mess with. Not sure why you think i am looking for an argument.
Good on you for stepping up and correcting that lady! I would say a lot of the occasional wood burners who wait till the last minute to get wood, who don't know about 20% MC, and don't know about forums......these are the kinds of people that I'm calling ignorant - they just don't know...... I mean it's ok to make mistakes I get it......but to keep spreading these falsehoods that softwoods are not to be burned indoors.....That doesn't make any sense to me. I make plenty of mistakes all the time, including not cleaning out the grooves in my bar, using the wrong file size on my Makita chainsaw not once but twice (now that's just stupid).....but the point is to learn from them and make progress. Not everybody has to have xxx amount of wood and 15 different chainsaws but spreading straight up falsehoods about wood is just hindering others.....That I don't like. Sharing is caring! Why is it that people who don't know nothing about a particular topic always seem so interested in offering advice??? First step in learning is realizing that you don't know what you are doing in the first place. We have so many resources available to ask for help. Nothing to be ashamed of. I remember being in my attic doing the insulation and posting on the Terry Love plumbing forum (fantastic resource for all things plumbing btw) and this one guy Dana was helping me in realtime....It was fantastic......I owe him a case of beer.
LordOfTheFlies My son is hard core perfectionist and gets discouraged/embarrassed if he cant do something right the first time. I keep trying to tell him that mistakes are the way to learn. If we did everything right the first time, we would take everything for granted.
I can relate to that sentiment. I definitely get fustrated when I don't *get* things right away.....A lot of things come easy but certain things take time, tweaking, and adjustments...like sharpening a chainsaw chain. But I think with experience you hopefully gain some wisdom and realize that not everything can click immediately every time. Reminds me of that Galaxy Quest (best movie ever) quote - "Never give up! Never surrender!!!" Everyone makes mistakes - it's just whether or not you learn from it........If you keep making the same mistake.....You're not progressing..... Which reminds me of a quote my 7th grade math teacher said - "Practice makes permanent - it only becomes perfect if you permanently practice perfection" which is another way of saying don't keep doing the same thing and expect different results. That's just insanity. Which reminds me of another quote from some famous jedi master. "Do or do not - there is no try." - Master Yoda.
Keep poking the bear and you are gonna get bit...Just a friendly reminder based on pure facts with zero conjecture!
