About 2 yrs ago i bought a pretty ratty looking, old Husqvarna 266Xp, well that's what it said on the top cover anyway. lol. The covers are pretty faded out, but, not broken, the clutch cover was about worn through from the inside. The chain, well, lets just say it was toothless in some ways. And, the rubber mounts were toast. Took it to a friend of mine, he got around to replacing the mounts, Boy, what a difference that made. Then i put a new chain on it. The funny thing was , it ''used'' to be a 266, but, the guys brother i bought it from switched it over to a 272, barrel, piston, and carburetor. It was ugly , but, a real wolf in sheeps clothing! The darned thing will start on the second pull almost every time after sitting cold for 3-4 days religiously!! Its a old saw, but i still let it warm up. The new chain, well i refiled it, and did a dumb thing, gave the rakers about 2 strokes off each one. too much! Now, its super hungry, but, it'll just about pull the log toward you if you don't watch it, lol. Took it too a friends house today to slice up some big maple burled wood. I told him, watch this, so i pulled it though one time on choke, it popped, then choke off and she fired to life, and it even stayed up on the idle!!Amazing saw. I let it warm up and put it to the wood, this thing pulled like it was a brand new saw and just ate wood like it was going out of style. I flush cut a 3 ft maple stump with it about 3 ft off the ground. NO Problem, at all, big chips and this saw just flat ate that stump up. With the rakers like they were it would bog down a little, but, i held it up and it just amazed me. I've got a similar old 266 that belonged to a retired faller from here, it runs good, but, this old frankinsaw in a 272 REALLY RUNS. I must have really did a good job on the chain , 35 degree angle and it threw chips against my leg so hard they almost hurt, and it never ran out of power. I think its a 28'' bar and must be the perfect combination, because it sure works great. I"m super happy with it. I sure like these old saws!!
