Is this just a Maine thing?

I think you can get some designer bulbs.
    But !
    LED's are so much better.
    More light
    Less heat
    Less power useage
Lasts 10-20 times longer... or more?

Dollar for dollar, you will spend more on incandescent through replacing burned out bulbs.

    I don't think so.

But, I bought a buttload when they were still cheap!

Not to start an argument, but incandescent bulbs have been around for decades and decades. LED's, meh....the last few years only. So how do "they" know that they last 10-20 times longer, right? And, don't you have to have special LED fixtures also? Yeah, probably better and more light output but it sure sounds like you're spending a dollar to save a dime.

They said that about compact florescent lights too, and then found out, because they took so long to come on that homeowners just left them on, so they ended up using more electricity than incandescent in the long run. Its all over the greenie forums that incandescent light bulbs are actually better for the environment.

I am going on 3 years with the main incandescent light bulbs in my kitchen. Granted they are "designer" bulbs so they cost $8 per bulb, but they are still lit too.

I am with YopperDave on this one.

BTW: The wavelight length of LED's are very harmful to a persons'/pets eye sight!

I can't say about most other states. But in the Interior here. People Drive Me Insane. They expect to go to the woods and cut bone dry firewood. . Just after they put the last stick of wood they had in the stove.
Its weird most of them Don't have arctic entries, garages, or wood sheds. Old timers up here too. ?????

I saw a few Alaska type shows over the Thanksgiving weekend and ever one of them cut firewood as they needed it. I assumed it was just for "the TV show" as it adds drama, but it seems like that is the law of the land huh?

For us the led's are perfect. They last a LONG time. Turn on fully bright in Extreme cold and , since our electric costs almost 1$ per kw. The cost savings of having 10 or 12 lights turned on is substantial .I've seen 75 watt output pig tail florescent bulbs making less light than a bic lighter at 50 below.
But, in lots of situations a good old fashion incandescent bulb works great.

    Ya , its bone ignorant.
I quit the firewood business because no one would buy green wood a year ahead of time. And I didn't have the land to have a log yard .
I've gotten so many calls in the middle of the night when people threw their last chunk of wood in their stove. And not regular customers. People I didn't even know.

We replaced all the incadecents in the barn, chicken coop and shop with LEDs. They are bright and don’t produce much heat. Pretty nice in these area with all the dust and hay around.

They don’t need a special fixture, just change out the old bulb. Modern LEDs don’t flicker like the old ones so as far as I know they aren’t harmful to eyesight. I am far from an expert but have done a bit of reading on the internet so take it with a grain of salt.

True that. But just like you would observe with incandescent bulb, don't exceed the recommended wattage rating.

I do see LED fixtures for sale in stores though......wonder why?

I don't have a cell phone. Never have...one of the few on the planet that do not I know...

Sorry about misspelling your name though. I do have a new lap top so I am still getting used to the new keyboard.

Some LEDs seem to have problems with dimmer style setups or sensor based. I don't know the inner workings to comment more. I do observe my sensor based one near my door likes to "hum" which would drive me absolutely insane (too late?) if it were indoors.

I like the LEDs, CFLs were a joke from day one. The LED light bars I put on my tractor are absolutely pizzah.

I assumed it was because there was a lot of wet ground and the people could get the wood out via snowmobile. However it really does not matter if a person cut wood in the winter of 2017 for winter of 2018? Or am I missing something. Here in Maine as you know, typically you cut firewood in winter for the next winter. It is not the 3 year plan; never heard of that, but 1 summer was enough to get sufficient dry-down. The worst I ever heard was a LOGGER who said, "I got to get wood out now for some firewood customers before it is too late to get the wood dried"...and it was September! maybe they finish drying it in the house like I do! :)

What you describe...again as a Mainer you know this...is that such a thing as you describe occurs with hay. People call you up at 10 PM wondering if you have hay because they are out...and I do not even routinely sell hay! I have livestock, so I always have hay kicking around. I go to bed at 7 PM, sure I am up at 3 AM, but DO NOT CALL ME at 10 PM!!

The worst was my dog catcher. She nailed me for not registering my dog, but instead of getting me for one infraction, got me for all three dogs. Yet she calls me up after I pay a $300 fine for not having my dogs registered and wants me to bend over backwards for her to get hay. "I got money", she says, which is true, which for her means you give her hay, and she'll pay you in installments...said after the deal is done, of which you only get half. Every year she has a new hay farmer get her hay, until halfway through winter they figure her out.

This is the same woman on a different thread I mentioned who had "free" lambs that was very belittling to my wife about our backhoe. Fooey with you chick!

I hear you on the cell phone.

The one I have is paid for minute by minute and is there for my convenience.

People ask, "why don't you text on your phone?" "Don't want to...phones are for talking...."

    Fun to be old fashioned!

Cell phones were an invention devised by women to keep track of their men. Period. Drop the Mic. That is why I call them "Electronic Leashes".

I admit it would have been nice to have one when I got cut in the woods/almost broke my leg last week, but I could just use the 911 law where any phone can be used for emergency services even if it is not activated. No husband monitoring allowed. :)

You are not alone with your thinking. Our cell phone is turned off at least 95% of the time and at home, even tho we may be out and about. We still have a wired phone at home. We lost power a few days ago and we had to use the wired landline to contact the coop. Don't have cell service where we live.

Not that I have any reason to be nervous about wife monitoring...just to be clear! :)
