    My wife, a horticulturalist, says that technically it's not latin but botanical name - not all botanical names are Latin. There's a genus name and a specific epithet, which can be latin based, greek based, or whatever.

    Si, but the point is Liquidambar styraciflua is the same tree in Georgia, Wisconsin, Norway or Nicaragua.
