    No - in Hayward for the Birkie cross-country ski race. Been coming up here for 30 some years but thus only the second Birkebeiner I've been to.

    Ah yes. Cross country skiing. I remember doing that a long, long time ago. We used to have a ball when we lived in the north but it is rather demanding and I don't think this body would take kindly to it now.

    Sounds like a great time staying with your buddy and all. :yes:

    He has a great setting there at his place. He stacks his wood just like I do, single file downhill with a backward slope. looks good, but it helps to be on level ground..... Enjoy your weekend and send more pics. :)

    Yeah, there's snow up north, much less than last year, but similar to 2 winters ago. Just a bit less lake effect snow as lake superior is nearly almost frozen over.

    Yeah, that's a nice stack/ snow fence he has!

    Having a blast with my friend Bill. We cheered on the skiers as the came to the finish line.

    Found out there are 10500 skiers participating this year!

    Watched the race for a few hours. Boy those people are way too fit....almost makes me want skip my morning donut....almost.

    Here is a few of the first wave of racers going up a temporary bridge over Highway 63.

    Headed back and went to work on bucking an aspen Bill dropped a while back.

    It was back in the woods away so I bucked it and carried each one out by hand.

    Fond memories of about 1974 in the early spring heading over to Chippewa Falls for a brewery tour with Jake Leinenkugel. Being 21 year old college guys we were going for the free beer after the tour. The drive from Menomonie to Chippewa was only 30 to 40 minutes and it was a great Friday afternoon after class "road trip". We would bring the vension sausage and stop to pick up some sharp cheddar and some crackers. Vension sausage, sharp cheddar and Leinnie's

    Since Jake sold to Miller Brewing I don't know if they still have brewery tours in Chippewa anymore? Jake needed to sell the regulations were killing him, plus he got a nice check from Miller.
    And yes the Birkie is a great event.

    Leinie's now, long ago there were Old Style and Pabst blue ribbon signs on so many of the country bars. Holy smokes- was that back in the 60's and 70's? Gads how time flies....
