Saw a nice tan wolf on the way to work yesterday. Was not able to get wowed, bail out the truck before he made it to the woods. Dang icy roads, was close to getting a round off.

Second Christmas, the Refuge now has enough snow to be opened to snow machine. Life is getting really good gentlemen! Hopefully moose and caribou pictures to follow.

Plan is coming together, heading out for a few days. Thankfully I still have 10 days to plan. Heading to the foothills, will be a 4-5 hour snowgo ride. Exciting times going to be awesome hunt. Hopefully it is well in the negative for both highs and lows will make the moose move better. Want -30 or colder. 442FBB95-50E9-4CF7-82BD-E38C81DB4089.jpeg 09C704CC-8978-4DBF-BDB7-53A5771447FC.jpeg

    I absolutely loved Alaska.
Not sure I'm up to living there though...:emb:

It’s a good life. My normal is not everyone’s. Compared to life on the outside, it’s different.
Usually messing with bears is a self correcting problem.

Plans changed, I got a report about thin ice in the area I was going to hunt. Going it alone I have chose another closer to help if I need any. I am checking the ice on the tannana river in the morning. If it’s thin I still have a few hundred acres to hunt. If it crossable I have a few hundred thousand acres to hunt. All loaded up Skandic and sleigh an most gear is ready. E83121F1-C279-42BB-BC3F-9E2BF573FA02.jpeg FCC84307-63A5-4DF2-9DC2-7B1B0FDC145E.jpeg

Broke through a lot of ice, made it home. I love the north country. First loop I made was 22 miles couldn’t cross the tannana river. Drive 50 miles to the south end of the refuge. This was a 45 mile loop made it to the chenchana river crossed her and decided to make it to the truck for dark.

Today my youngest son Justin (6) and I went looking for moose and caribou. We went out for the day did about 40-50 miles. Lots of tracks but nothing in them. Was awesome having a 6 year old thank me for spending the day just me and him. And taking him hunting, said it was his best day ever. That conversation on the way home was worth everything.

The first picture is from checking ice thickness on the Tamana river we wanted to cross.

We are overpopulated, however they are always son the move. Let’s call it needle in a haystack moving over 400,000 acres. I used that # as it’s the size of the refuge I hunt. Not like going to your favorite food plot and bang. We put 40-50 miles on snow machine had to cross a river and break trail the entire way. 7 months makes a short season.
