Odd indeed! It was 68 degree's here yesterday, on Dec. 13th! A record high here in Dec since the beginning of time!

Maybe we don't need the FHC site anymore?? Shut it down! None of us need wood anymore!!! :D

We broke a record that was held for 40 years in Milwaukee. It hit 60° yesterday. Also, the Green Bay Packers game was the warmest December home game in history. It was like 56°. And rain, which is wrong...

Matter of fact if it were cold enough, with all this rain we've had, we'd be buried under snow if it wouldn't have been rain.

There were worms out all over this am. Weird, but it's el nino.

we call them sleds too... snow machine could be like a piston bully big machines with tracks that drag ski mountains or VA ST Trails... or a snow making equipment are also called snow machines or snow guns.. but I'm probably 150 miles from NH mountain man so very probably use same vernacular. Vermont economy is hurting for sure ski mountains green... VAST stickers slow... tire dealers are crying... Uma our Christmas card picture was supposed to be family on 1 horse open sleigh.... maybe in February

Im a paint contractor. With this mild winter so far the builder I work for has got a lot more houses ready for me to paint this winter so I'm not complaining. I do feel for the guys who depend on the cold weather for work though. I have had my share of slow times too. Feast of Famine as they say.

gotta wait and see if upper cold air is replaced driving current cold air elsewhere. usually south. meteo theory some say changes jet stream air flow. one of the things they look for in long range outlooks.

RE: ... original post ... dunno. Some win, some lose, end of the day ... it is what it is. We just got dumped on by nearly a foot of snow. However, forecast is for warmer than normal well into January. Ski hill operator, snow machine dealers and plow operators will suffer some. They know they are in a seasonal business and hedge their bets some anyways. The employees though will be adversely affected. We're out in an unorganized township (disorganized) and pay for everything except the air we breathe - so we're saving on the plowing. Win some -lose some - it's all good in the end.

    Ranger bob,
The reason I posted this question is because it is IMO a tossup. Some win and some loose. But, what is true there are some losers in a mild winter. I work part-time at the local ski area and use that couple grand that I earn to feed my tool addiction. So, this year because I already only have worked about a third the time my addiction is not going to get satisfied.
The other reason is a fancy myself as a "closet economist" and I think the discussion is fascinating.

Right on Marty. Me too. I no longer work for pay but stay busy at other things. I took a 3 yr course a few years back, then went on a mission trip for 6 months. Now I am fascinated by the economy here and in the U.S. mainly. I was thinking local to our immediate economy when I posted but the broader effects may have greater and more far reaching effects as our planets' climate changes. Long term we may be in for a rude awakening unless as a global society we are able to adapt and adjust priorities. At present we do not even consider opportunity costs of our decisions. I am now concerned more with what our children and future generations will be faced with than immediate local issues. Weather does impact that also but we can help each other as need be on a local level. Thanks for the great post bro!

On the plus side, A friend of mine is a general contractor, build homes... He normally slows waaaaay down in Dec thru early March since it's too cold to work outside as much or snowy... This year, he is swamped and has already done better this Dec than he normally does all winter.
