Is a barometric damper beneficial on a wood furnace?

My burn times are approximately the same...maybe a little longer. However, the amount of heat it now puts out is amazing! I have yet to turn on my propane furnace yet, in fact, the gas tank valve is still closed. I have not checked the chimney yet, but by the way the upper part of the stove looks inside by the baffle, I'm pretty confident the chimney is clean as well. I'm with brenndatomu in saying that you have too much draft and are choking the fire on oxygen. This was causing all my soot problems too. I was burning plenty dry wood...sheltered probably 7-8 years inside an old corn crib but still getting soot in my chimney because I was choking the air coming into the stove. I'm hoping to shut the stove down this weekend and install the manual damper and recheck the draft. I'm hoping the manual damper will extend the burn time a little longer. Stay tuned!

I’m sure that’s the case that the draft is very Stong as my stack temp are up in the 4-500 range. Yes I get tremendous heat, my father has had the same (generation earlier) stove for 40 yrs and gets longer burn times minimum 8hrs different chimney setups.
I had done some hw and guys have stated 8-10 burns on a full load.
Wood is dry mostly ash some maple that has split and stacked for over 2 years.
I’d hate to modify such a good stove but I may revert to an oil drip to extend.
I don’t get much smoke which these do claim to have the secondary burn chamber so I believe I’m getting secondary fire. But I was really hoping you were gonna say your burn times had extended.

I think they claim to have a "secondary heat exchanger", which just means a longer path for the hot gasses to travel to the stovepipe. A secondary burn chamber would have secondary air tubes to provide superheated oxygen above the primary fire.
