IPA stands for India Pale Ale. It is generally really hoppy and strong type of beer. WAY back in the day, merchant ships travelling from England to India carried this extra strong type of beer. The extra alcohol helped it survive the long trip, but some say this is a myth. Anyway, IPA is an acquired taste. If your first beer is an IPA, you'll probably never pick up another beer in your life. I didn't use to like them, but now I do.
I had heard that the extra hops in the ipa were the preservatives that helped the beer survive the journey.
I didn't know there was a special glass for drinking IPAs. I thought they were fine right out of the bottle now I know I've been drinking wrong this whole time.
I don't know enough about the glasses but the deal site I frequent is going crazy over these. Its front page news there. Something special about these.
I did know that there are certain glasses for certain beverages but I hadnt heard about one for IPAs until today. Thanks for learning me something wildwest
Same here, I had no idea. It also jogged some memories. I dug these out of the back of my kitchen cabinet. These were my granddad's, circa 1976. They are crystal too. I don't know if they are beer glasses, but that is what I remember seeing in them at cookouts. I prefer a nice Sam lager over an IPA.
try, (if you can find it) a Dogfish head 90 minute IPA. One of the best I've ever had, not the usual hopmonster that other breweries seem to be jumping on the bandwagon with. I believe its an imperial (double strength) with a whole bunch of malty yumminess.

If, on the other hand, you prefer an IPA now and then, a stout the next, or a lager in between, the shape of the glass will undoubtedly affect the aroma and head retention, and possibly which flavors hit your pallet first when consuming these beers.
