Careful with the peat harvesting. Never know when you might uncover a druid sacrifice body
Welcome. I think your posts will be very enlightening on what you burn and what others methods may differ than in North America.

Welcome, Gazahayes! I once burned some peat, they sold it in the grocery store one year around St. Patrick's day. It smelled nice. Sounds like you have a good supply of wood coming your way. Please post some pictures!

Usually no bodys in the bog but we have recovered old shoes and glasses. Going setting up the go pro to record the trees coming down hopefully. That's what they were like before DSC_0777.JPG DSC_0777.JPG and this was during the storm! IMG-20171016-WA0005.jpg

    Welcome aboard Gazahayes

Now...regarding that burning of peat.....Make sure that the scotch and whisky manufacturers DO NOT run out of what they need first!!!

As I understand, they use it for drying malts, barley, etc?

Mainly used for making poitin (Irish moonshine) it gives it more smokey flavour. Peat is a good fuel once you get the weather to dry it and like timber it's best left season for a year at least. Have about 20 cubic meter bags saved during the summer17 for burning winter 19 on.

Hi. I am Ole a 2 year lurker. I was told to introduce myself. Great forum you have here.
I don't burn wood in this house but our first home we burned for 18 years. I own a 40 acre woods here in Southern Wisconsin so I have a little firewood business just to keep my woods clean. It is about 1/4 miles up the road so I just use my Honda Rancher ATV and a little trailer to procure wood. I sold 10 cords last year all oak and all to my friends. They come and get it in my shed then we drink all my profits up!

    In December I turned this:

    and this:

    into this:

My tools are Stihl MS261C, Stihl 192TC, Husqvarna 445, (which I do not like the Stihl 261 is twice the saw) Logrite 30" hookaroon, Fiskars 36" splitting axe, Fiskars 36" 8# Isocore maul, and I just picked up a used DR 5 ton electric splitter.
I bring the rounds into my shed then split and stack and my buds come around June 1st and pick it up so it can season outside for the next burning year.

I swear I could live in my shed if it only had heat. I paid $200 for the DR elactric splitter and it was like new still had paint on the wedge and the push plate. Worked great one oak had 81 growth rings it was a bigun'

I will try to dig up more pics of "stuff" I have harvested out of my woods

When we built this house in 1997 it was a joint decision to give up burning wood. So no chimney. I booked my LP this year at $1.01 gal which I feel is cheap. No we don't have any pets but I am looking at a cute "mix breed" dog at the humane society,,,,
