    Hello !
    Been lurking for a few months, seems like a good bunch of guys here. I am not a wood hoarder (yet) but burn about a cord per year to supplement my hot water heat in a fireplace with decent glass doors.
    I own a custom cabinet shop so kindling is always available to me. I have been burning for 35 years in my past two houses but haven't relied on it as a primary heat source. I hope to retire in upper Michigan, in a cabin in the woods and have wood as my primary heat source.
    I'm not usually too chatty on other forums that I belong to but I will participate when I feel I have something to add to the discussion. Thanks for including me to the group!

    We had the same set up 20 years ago. We upgraded our franklin fireplace to a pre epa woodstove and never turned back :)

    Welcome there jdude. Just how far away is retirement? Never too soon to get the land ahead of time you know. Now then, upper Michigan probably means lower peninsula....right?
    If you really want a cabin in the woods, you'll want to look for land in the Upper Peninsula! Only trouble there is, they ain't making any more of it, so if thats what you want, get on it!

    I am about 15 years away from retirement, and, YES i was referring to Da yoop. I currently own some ground outside Grayling but it is for sale. I have spent a lot of time in the U.P., a LOT of time. I like the Munising/ Marquette areas but anywhere that there are mixed Pine/Hardwoods works for me.

    I have looked at some of the smaller inland lakes in that area, found some good prospects. What part of the U.P. are you in?
    My son and I will be up there probably in July, I wanted to make a weekend run up there this weekend but a bad tooth and possible root canal put a stop to those plans:mad:
