I thought I had done this, but I think that was at the Proboards site, so....Hi everybody. I'm Matt. I live on a little 'stead out here in the far, far NW corner of the contiguous States. I do marine electronics for a living, but try to spend most of my time working around the 'stead cutting wood, growing and preserving food, raising livestock, and trying to get rad in the surf or snow whenever I can. I tinker with fire for a hobby, and you can usually find me with at least one, if not more, fires going all year round. I am constantly playing with heater and stove designs, although it seems like I typically use them to cook food while making my cool climate more bearable while outdoors, which is my favorite place to be. I heat the house solely with wood as well, and am coming along on getting a few years ahead on the stacks. I'm really glad to be a part of this board from the beginning, you guys have already taught me TONS about hoarding wood. Looking forward to learning a lot more.

Long time listener (from some other site, cough, cough) first time caller. I've had a Jotul Oslo for 2 years now and you've all helped me more than you know. I'm a Georgia boy transplanted to the very not Southern state of Connecticut. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I applaud your new endeavor. Cheers everyone.

Hi, I am Guido the junk man. I prefer to be known as an "archivist" rather than a hoarder. If anyone needs Studebaker parts ring me up.

Hello all. Gary is the name and we burn about halftime through the winter. We are located in southwest Michigan. I am lucky to have found this site because I couldn't get online for a couple weeks and found things not the same at all as before.

Hi, I'm Bob from Northern California. I'm a semi-retired logger and I've been known to cut a little firewood now and then. We heat our house entirely with an old wood stove that a high school shop class built back in the 60s.. I'm not even sure if the gas furnace still works.
My regular site is going through some problems so I thought I'd have a look at this place.

Good to see you are still alive Bob. PM sent... this site is far mellower than the other site you frequent, but it has just started up. Scotty has banned political discussions here, but we are trying to sway him otherwise.

For the rest of you, Bob is one hell of a stand-up guy. He deserves a lot of respect, IMO.

Hey Schlot. Do you have something cool from Iowa for your avatar?

I had a picture of my black lab as an avatar on the other site that will remain nameless. Let me see what I can find.

Goose, your black lab looks very similar to my female. I was in the process of rescuing her brother and she was the last one left. I couldn't leave her there all by herself!

Thanks StihlHead. I'm still kicking, just not as fast or as much as before. We're finishing up a little sale this week and then, with any luck at all, I'll be done for the year.
You guys go ahead on the politics...but without me please. I had plenty of that in the other forum. I'll hang out in the saw section. It looks like everybody makes a real effort to get along here...that's a welcome change from some of the other forums.

Keeping politics off-site is going to be a big part of maintaining that.

Exactly right. There are a lot of political forums on the 'net where guys can argue with each other all they want. It usually goes beyond argument and turns into name calling, personal attacks, and insults. Who needs it?

You guys have a nice little site here. I know about cutting wood but there's a lot about stoves, especially all the newer stuff, that I need to learn. This looks like the place to do that.

I'm Bryan...have a house in Chicago and a business just across the state line in Indiana where all my wood, tools, and stoves are. Bought a used Hearthstone about 3 years ago, and have been spending too much money on associated equipment / toys ever since. Really enjoyed the site so far. I like that the mods here don't try and talk over as authorities. Good group of people here...let's keep it that way.
