I have a house with a pellet stove I plan on moving my Encore 2550 into the next year or so.

New member here. Had trouble getting signed up but krustydog73 took care of it for me. I don't heat with wood but I am addicted to chainsaws, guns and ammo. I'm on a couple of the other forums and enjoy them. Looking forward to talking with you guys on here.

Welcome to the forum. You live in the mitten so we're not far apart as I live SW of Saginaw. If you are interested, we usually have a GTG at our place and hoarders come from near and far. You are welcome to come. Watch for a notice but our plan is that last Saturday in April plus Thursday and Friday.

Welcome to the forum. If one has to be addicted to something I'd say you are on the right track.

When and where is this GTG you speak of? I need to add another to my go to list. As long as it doesn't interfere with other vacation plans.

Sorry Steve I thought we talked about this at Custer's.

Look at that last week of April. They usually start coming in Friday morning but we are blessed when a few good guys come in Wednesday or Thursday night. The 2 Kevins are usually the first to come and they are welcome to come to my place any time.

    Good Day All!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Have been burning wood for about 25 years and love it. Really enjoy this forum and have learned a lot. It is one of my must reads for the day. I am an educational consultant by day and a wood hoarder by night. I have six kids (only one "officially" still at home, but they keep moving back!), a lovely wife and two grandkids. I also have two Brittanys - Jack and Ann and a cat. I like to garden, raise chickens and turkeys and hunt. We live on a 3 acre plus or minus so I can spread out a little.

My wood hoarding equipment includes a Stihl 362 and a 170, Super Jolly Chain Grinder (love it), 1966 John Deere 1020, 1940 Farmall H and a very old grain wagon for hauling. I also have a rusted-out Ford F250 that gets in on the action occasionally. As for processing my hoard, I have a Menards Forest King splitter that I got several year ago during a black Friday event, a few splitting mauls and a Fiskars x27 (which is great, I might add). I used to split everything by hand until a couple of years ago. Although I am not in the shape I used to be in from all of the splitting, hydraulics certainly makes things go a lot quicker, particularly with the infamous elm.

As for wood, I will generally burn anything that is available and close by...ash, elm, oak, hickory, cherry, hackberry, maple, mulberry and even some white pine for some good shoulder wood and also to burn down some of the coals in the dead of winter. I recently got into a lot of oak and hickory...money in the bank! Even though I have three year's worth of wood on hand...I will rarely turn down another opportunity to scrounge, particularly if it is given to me or is close by. Like many others on this forum, I often get teased by my family for being obsessed with wood. However, one of the favorite places in our house is right in from of our Pacific Energy stove! Thus, I suspect that they like my obsession as well.

    Merry Christmas to you all!

I like beer but don't drink a lot. I do like all the other things you mentioned but I'm pretty sure my Wife prefers that I don't lead off with the Boobies part, especially when meeting people for the first time!:picard::rofl:
