I'm just a saw nut. Not a brand loyalist. If I like it I like it.

    Hello all!

    New guy checking in.

My name is Andy, and I enjoy making firewood and general tree work. I have 2 fireplaces in my home and currently burn about a cord and a half a year.

Machinist by trade, and I have always been a tinkerer with anything gas-powered. I am not brand-loyal, and enjoy running vintage equipment as well as newer tools.

    Thanks for letting me in!

Thank you! That is part of a 147 year old ash tree. A buddy of mine dropped off 5 sections like that last year, and I finally decided to turn them into firewood. My husky 395 made short work of chunking it up into manageable size for the splitter and maul

Welcome to the site aj308win :handshake: Great place to be both a student and teacher. We love pics. What stove do you use for burning your firewood? What part of WI do you call home?

Thank you for the welcome, Erik!

I am in the Hartford area, south-east corner of the state. 16401021621646606250496628484384.jpg

The home I purchased has 2 masonry fireplaces with a steel liner and air-gap behind them. I plan on re-working the basement fireplace with a more modern insert to really throw heat and reduce my flue heat losses. With just the fireplace and a small fan, I can still easily heat my 2300sq feet with a moderate fire.

I am just north of La Crosse a little bit. Our house came with a zero clearance fire place that sent all the heat up the chimney. We first installed an Earth Stove insert that we had for 35 years. 3 years ago we bought a Lopi insert. Seeing the stove is upstairs in the living room we can't heat the whole house. We did manage to reduce our heating bill by 75% or more.
DSC01094.JPG This is the Earth Stove. It took 12 inch wood, which meant a lot of work for processing our firewood.
DSC03373.JPG Our new stove. This will handle 16 inch wood. We still have 12 inch wood for this year and part of next year before we get into the 16 inch wood.

Don't hate me but....I don't burn wood outside of back yard fire pit. I have a constant pile served up by wind storms. I'm a saw addict mainly. Collection of oldies and a growing collection of professionally ported modern and new saws plus a couple I've hacked on myself.

Go motorized sports on dirt or road courses. Lol.

I do have fitted Michigan hat though. Wife is MSU fan.

Here is what I'm dealing with after 2 different 60-75 mph wind storms. That shelter used to face due south and covered that entire pile. Has an Eastern angle now lol.

Your Holzhausen game is weak lol. Shame about the shelter; Those winds last week were just brutal to everything!
