I do the same exact thing. Majority of folks I converse with are stored in my cell phone and I can recognize when they call. If I get a call that I cannot ID I simply do not pickup. If that call was legit (Doctor apt. CL Ad, etc...,) 9 time out of 10 they leave a message and I simply call them back. Only in rare instances if I am waiting for an important call I'll pickup non-ID phone call. System works great!!!

Most everyone I know in my area got rid of the house phone, but we still have them and are there for the kids to use in an emergency, although they are all muted. So they can call that house # all they want, nobody even knows they are calling.

In the past I used to do what your son does. Just set the phone down and walk away.

It’s totally my fault Dennis , so sorry. I called about your splitter stuck in the vertical position and gave them your number . They said it’s useless like that and they would help fix it !

We also get a lot of junk calls but between having caller ID and an answering machine we can screen all unknown calls. If it is a legit call they will leave a message and if I am home when the call comes in and I recognize the caller, I can always answer the call. The "Do Not Call" list is a joke. Have any of you gotten a call from yourself? I have gotten a couple of calls where the caller ID tells me I am calling myself.

That is the way it is around here. If I don't recognize the umber, talk to the voice mail. I seldom answer my phone. It is always, "Have I got a del for you." Use to cuss the out but now it is a recording. I gave my wife's umber for any important call I am expecting.

    "After all, laws stop criminals."
It sure does need edited. I'll start the war. Like gun control solves the problem.

My son used to tell me I was being rude when I cursed the caller out. "They are just doing their job." "Yes but I can't help it they have a chitty job." Now with the computers calling it isn't as fun.

My mother, who is 93 years old, got a call about helping her with her student. loan:doh:
Shortly after her call I got the same call. I stayed on the line to play with them. If I take up their time maybe one of you will not get the call.
"We can help you with your student"
    "Great"
    "How much do you owe"?
"I don't know. You evidently know. Please tell me. It is a bill that I wasn't aware of."

Sorry. Telemarketers have been a pet peeve for many years.

While I agree with you 100% Marshel54 I don't want to start a political rant.

That's why I was offering to edit that post before an argument started.

I guess I shouldn't have typed that in the first place. Yes, more laws will never stop criminals.

I think some of them are currently doing time and are calling from jail cells.

Couldn't ignore my business phone so I would just hang up. But if you're not in my contact list I'm not answering. I usually hit the sleep/wake button so I don't have to listen to it ringing. I don't even get messages left any more. Some people can't ignore a ringing phone but it never bothered me. Sorry, bank of dad is closed right now. We value your call, please leave a message. If we think it is of value, we'll call you right back.
