I try to look at things from a practical sense.
    1. Cellulose is shredded newspaper and by nature it readily burns, so much so that we use it to start our wood fires.
    2. To stop that, companies have to add a product to stop it from burning.
    3. Companies are only going to add enough product to meet minimum standards to maintain the most profit
They only add boron 20% by weight to obtain fireproof ratings, which means 80% of it has not been treated. Since we are talking about percentages, it does not mean if we are talking about a piece of it shredded, or an entire bag, 80% is untreated. So from that we have to ask some more questions, such as if it can be added to a product, what conditions mean it can be separated from a product?

But we have not even started talking about experience. My father had an issue with it with fire, and I cited a study, and a fatal fire where children were killed. Now in proportion to how much product is out there, I would deem it incredibly safe, but I would never consider this insulation fire-safe. There is a difference between fireproof, and safe-enough.

But we have not even begun to talk about its other poor properties. One is rodent resistance. My Tiny Home has cellulose and I can assure you it is not rodent proof at all. And being a product that was a living, breathing organism, it is prone to mold.

But no insulation is perfect either.

LodgedTree .. logic is wrong, they add the Boron which is a stone pulverized to the water when they mix the solution. 20% of a weight, if mixed, does not leave 80% untreated.

Chainsaw needs mix gas to run, you add forty parts gas to one oil Or a couple ounces per gallon. The whole gallon is treated if mixed.

Well I FINALLY finished my attic this week. About 50 bags were installed in Nov 2018. My wife and I ran out of daylight due to the machine being very slow at spitting the stuff out. We never got around to blowing in the last 20 bags until the other day. I asked my neighbor to give me a hand and feed the machine and this time we got all 20 bags done in an hour. I can feel a difference and the hallway temp is running about 3* warmer at the thermostat (this area was the unfinished section of the attic). Overall the house feels a lot nicer than it did pre-insulation upgrade. Definitely worth the time, money and effort.

I personally think compliments are better than insults... ;)
Nice work BCB , I need to get up into the upper attic (cape cod) and blow a few bags sometime too...there is only 2-3" of fiberglass there now...heck, there wasn't even a way up there until I cut an access in last year.

One thing about adding insulation to your house...…. It'll always perform asbestos as it can.
