...and they say things aren't built today like in the 'good old days'.... then we see wall framing and lack of insulation and say: '...thank God we don't" !!
schlot with the work you did insulating/sealing your lodge, did you notice nay difference this past winter? I remember you had some below 0 days to "give it a test run"
Since I'm waiting for my friend to come help install my door, and therefore finish drywalling, I decided to tear into the master bedroom ceiling. I found more of that lovely balsam wool insulation above the square ceiling tiles. The room has a low slope roof, with unfortunately, shallow depth roof joists, so getting more than R19 batts isn't going to happen. I think I will put 1/2" pink insulation board on the underside of the ceiling joists before the drywall goes on. Here's a picture of that awesome insulation. R value.....2!
Balsam wood insulation? schlot, is the existing ceiling height too low that you couldn't scab on some 2x's in order to bump up your soon to be replaced insulation?
Part of my previous home was 7'8". Neither of us are tall and it still felt low to us, then again it was warmer than the cathedral ceiling part of the house
OMG - when did you get access to my house? Those are my ceiling tiles and everything! Oh wait, I have rockwool (yeah, just awesome insulation value - not), not balsam wool. I will be going thru the same process at some point - one room at a time.
low ceilings are easier to heat and cool... it's funny how they do make house feel so much bigger. my army buddy and my sister have same size and style of house both built 20 years ago. Army buddy is 5 foot 7 tall... his house ceilings are 7 foot 4... my sister and her husband built their house.. Bil is all of 6'5" so he mandated his ceiling are 9 foot high. my wife swears the house with taller ceilings is sooo much bigger.. I actually pulled out tape measure and showed her.. they were the same floor space.. " I don't care if same size... Johns is bigger " OK I might need a woman speak on that one I do know we are never moving to a house with short ceilings.. her other list of needs... 3 car garage.. southern exposure.. tons natural light.. etc etc... then she got upset because she sounded like a spoiled brat!
This "woman speak" thing happened to me today. My wife and I were at the local modular home dealer, scoping things out. We kept getting throughly screwed up referring to the "front" or "back" of the house. In her mind the "front" is the side of the house that we would spend the most time looking out of while inside, which is the opposite side you view as you are driving up to the house, which is what I consider the "front"
Don't even try having a conversation about height, width, and depth. You'll just end up in the loony bin.
I had an airhead friend that would visit me at my previous home, she used a gps that did not recognize one turn to my house. I had to tell her again and again to turn at the duck pond. 6 years later my family still belly laughs as they mock the GPS gals voice saying "Turn left at duck pond" Also, I was talking to WWW while he was visiting family in California in a rental car, I could hear the GPS gal over his bluetooth, she was getting mean!! He missed the first left turn, got flustered on her insistance on the second left turn that was a one way street in the wrong direction, and I swear almost started to lose her temper. No thanks.
